Több mint ezerhétszáz embert vettek őrizetbe, és több száz lőfegyvert, alkatrészt és lőszert koboztak el a hatóságok az Interpol fegyvercsempészet elleni átfogó ázsiai művelete során – közölte pénteken a nemzetközi rendőrségi együttműködési szervezet.
Számos letartóztatás – több mint hatszáz – a pakisztáni–afgán határ menti tartományokban történt – közölte a lyoni székhelyű szervezet. A művelet révén, amelyben tíz ország vett részt, sikerült alaposabban feltárni az Afganisztánból Pakisztánba fegyvereket szállító teherautók útvonalait – közölte az Interpol.
A Trigger Salvo II kódnevű műveletnek köszönhetően sikerült megzavarni a fegyvercsempészetet ezekben a tartományokban – mondta Mohszin Haszam Butt, a szövetségi rendőrség főigazgatója. „Reméljük, hogy a jövőben is lesznek ilyen műveletek” – tette hozzá.
A közép-, dél- és kelet-ázsiai fegyvercsempészet elleni harcot tovább nehezíti, hogy nagy számban vannak forgalomban modern fegyverek, átjárhatók a határok, nehéz a terep, és gyakoriak az etnikai konfliktusok. Jürgen Stock, az Interpol főtitkára hangsúlyozta, hogy a fegyvercsempészet minden fajta bűnözés számára gyümölcsöző profitot termel.
A művelet keretében történt határellenőrzés során az Interpol vörös listáján szereplő 11 bűnözőt sikerült elfogni, közöttük egy prostitúcióban is érintett dél-koreait, akit a Fülöp-szigeteken vettek őrizetbe. A műveletben Brunei, a Fülöp-szigetek, Indonézia, Kína, Kirgizisztán, Dél-Korea, Mongólia, Nepál, Pakisztán és Szingapúr vett részt.
A BBC egy éven át tartó nyomozása egy globális, szadista majomkínzó hálózatot leplezett le, amely Indonéziától az Egyesült Államokig terjed. A World Service több száz ügyfelet talált az Egyesült Államokban, az Egyesült Királyságban, és még számos országban, akik indonéziaiaknak fizettek azért, hogy filmre vegyék ahogy megkínozzák, majd megölik a hosszúfarkú makákóbébiket.
A kínzókör a YouTube-on kezdte életét, majd a Telegram titkosított üzenetküldő alkalmazás privát csoportjaiba költözött. A rendőrség üldözi a vevőket, és sokukat már le is tartóztatták.
A BBC újságírói beépültek a Telegram egyik fő majomkínzó csoportjába, ahol több százan gyűltek össze, hogy szélsőséges kínzási ötleteket vitassanak meg, és Indonéziában, valamint más ázsiai országokban embereket bízzanak meg azok végrehajtásával.
A szadisták célja az volt, hogy az ügyfeleik igényeinek megfelelő, testreszabott filmeket készítsenek, amelyekben hosszúfarkú makákóbébiket bántalmaznak, kínoznak, és esetenként kegyetlenül ki is végzik a védtelen állatokat.
Jelenleg világszerte legalább húsz ember ellen folyik nyomozás, köztük három, az Egyesült Királyságban élő nő ellen, akiket a rendőrség tavaly letartóztatott, majd a nyomozás során szabadon engedett, valamint egy, az Egyesült Államok Oregon államában élő férfi ellen.
Mike McCartney, az Egyesült Államok egyik legnagyobb videóterjesztője, akit „A kínzókirály” fedőnéven ismernek, beszámolt arról, hogy hogyan csatlakozott az első Telegram-majomkínzó csoporthoz.
A BBC két másik fő gyanúsítottat is azonosított, akik ellen most az amerikai belbiztonsági minisztérium (DHS) nyomoz: Stacey Storey-t, egy negyvenes éveiben járó alabamai nagymamát, akit a közösségben Szadistaként ismertek, és egy Mr Ape név mögött rejtőző férfit.

Paul Wolpert különleges ügynök elmondta, hogy a bűnüldöző szervek részéről minden érintettet mélyen megdöbbentett a bűncselekmények jellege.
Bárki, aki részt vett a majomkínzó videók megvásárlásában vagy terjesztésében, számíthat arra, hogy valamikor kopogtatnak az ajtón – mondta Wolpert. Hozzátette, hogy nem fogják megúszni a dolgot.
A YouTube a BBC-nek adott nyilatkozatában közölte, hogy az állatkínzásnak nincs helye a platformon, és a vállalat keményen dolgozik a jogsértő tartalmak gyors eltávolításán.
Csak ebben az évben több százezer videót távolítottunk el és több ezer csatornát szüntettünk meg, mert megsértették az erőszakos és grafikus tartalmakra vonatkozó irányelveinket – áll a közleményben.
A legbrutálisabb csoportoknak otthont adó Telegram azt állítja, hogy elkötelezett a felhasználók magánéletének és az emberi jogoknak, például a szólásszabadságnak a védelme mellett, hozzátéve, hogy moderátorai nem tudnak proaktívan járőrözni a privát csoportokban.
Ázsia történetének legnagyobb metamfetamin és kristálymet fogását hajtották végre Laoszban, elképesztő értékű a találat.
A laoszi hatóságok összesen 55.6 millió darab metamfetamin tablettát és 1.7 tonna metkristályt foglaltak le a délkelet-ázsiai ország északi Bokeo tartományában, a szállító pedig egy rutinellenőrzés során akadt fent – írja a Washington Post.
Laosz becslései szerint az utcai árak alapján – amennyiben a szomszédos Thaiföldön értékesítik őket – legalább 200 millió dollár értékű volt a történelmi drogfogás. Amennyiben gazdagabb országokba, mint Ausztrália vitték volna tovább, akkor ez az összeg jóval nagyobb.
A fogás ráadásul olyan jelentős, hogy háromszorosa annak az amfetamin mennyiségnek, amelyet Laoszban tavaly az egész évben lefoglaltak. A laoszi hatóságok közleménye szerint fokozott figyelemmel kísérik a szállítmányokat, ugyanis nem ez az első komolyabb meth-fogás az utóbbi időkben.
A kábítószereket egyébként a Lao Brewery logóival ellátott ládákban tárolták, amely részben a laoszi állam tulajdona. A cég közleményben jelezte, hogy a kamion nincs regisztrálva az adatbázisukban, így a ládáikat felhasználták arra a bűnözők, hogy elrejtsék a tevékenységüket.
Bokeo egyébként a Laosz-Mianmar-Thaiföld hármashatár közelében található, amelyet a szakértők csak „Aranyháromszögnek” neveznek. Ez egy sűrű növényzettel borított, elszigetelt régió, amely évtizedek óta a globális kábítószer-előállítás és kereskedelem egyik központja.
Már 1993 óta az Aranyháromszög felelős például az Egyesült Államokba eljutó heroinkészlet mintegy 60 százalékáért. Az elmúlt évtized során inkább a szintetikus drogok előállítására mentek rá a környéken, amelynek állapotait sokszor törvényen kívüliként írják le.
A kábítószer-kereskedők Kínát is gyakran használják drogútvonalként, ugyanis alig több mint 50 kilométerre van csak tőle Bokeo. Amióta kitört a járvány, Kína sokkal szigorúbb határvédelmet alkalmaz, ezért az ottani útvonalak némileg visszaszorultak.
A nemzetközi szakértők elsősorban most a Mianmar északi részén található Shan állam miatt aggódnak, ahova az etnikai milíciák gerillaharcai miatt nem nagyon tudta a katonai junta a lábát. A régióban nagyon elterjedt a heroinhasználat, amelyet a csempészek kíméletlenül ki is használnak.

Eközben tízezrek kényszerültek otthonuk elhagyására a Fülöp-szigeteken is, ott a monszun okoz heves áradásokat.
Emberek tízezrei menekültek el otthonaikból szombaton a Fülöp-szigeteken a heves monszun okozta áradások miatt. Marikina városában csaknem 15 ezer lakost kellett kitelepíteni, mert riasztóan megemelkedett a közeli folyó vízszintje. Az áradásoknak egy halottjuk van.

Az esőzések pusztító erejéért nemcsak az időjárás szeszélye okolható, hanem az emberi tevékenység is, ugyanis sok helyütt a hegyoldalakon törvénytelenül kiirtották az erdőket, emiatt a víz sokkal intenzívebben ömlik a településekre. A Fülöp-szigeteket évente átlagosan húsz tájfun vagy igen erős vihar tépázza meg.
Indiában 138-ra emelkedett az özönvízszerű esőzések okozta áradások és földcsuszamlások halálos áldozatainak száma szombaton. A mentőcsapatok nagy erőkkel kutatnak a túlélők után.
Mahárástra államban négy évtizede nem tapasztaltak olyan heves esőzést, mint ebben a hónapban.
Az ítéletidő okozta pusztítások több százezer embert érintenek, félő, hogy a megáradt folyók újabb károkat okoznak. A Mumbaitól 180 kilométerre fekvő Talije település lakóházainak nagy részét romba döntötte egy földcsuszamlás, ott 42-re emelkedett a halottak száma.
