“Церква належить московському патріархату. Жодних погроз підпалу не надходило. Люди прокинулися й побачили пожежу близько другої години ночі. Поруч валялася каністра. Невідомі облили двері храму бензином і підпалили”, – сказала староста.
За її словами, перекриття храму залізобетонне, тому основні конструкції витримали. Однак громаді доведеться докласти чимало зусиль для відновлення храму.
Як стверджує староста села, жодних особливих цінностей в церкві не було, так само й не було погроз щодо підпалу храму. Все, що сталося, є повною несподіванкою для місцевих жителів.

Маккензі був заарештований і постав перед судом за підозрою в тероризмі.

Під час допитів віряни розповіли, що після недільної служби вони самі спустилися в підвал храму. За показами свідків, дехто перебував там з минулого серпня, хтось потрапив туди в січні.
Під час арешту пастори радили вірянам «залишатися на місці», щоб дочекатися приходу Христа, який, за їхніми словами, забере їх у рай.
Це не перший випадок у Нігерії, коли правоохоронцям доводиться втручатися в справи церкви і звільняти поневолених віруючих. У листопаді 2019 року виявили 15 чоловіків та жінок віком від 19 до 50 років, яких тримали прикутими в церкві в Лагосі. Деякі з них перебували там уже протягом п’яти років. Нападники вигукували гасло «Аллаху акбар», штовхали лавки та сповідальню. Повідомляється, що напад був записаний на відео. На кадрах видно, як поліція, згідно з правилами політкоректності, називає нападників молодими людьми південної зовнішності.
На момент прибуття правоохоронців, злочинці встигли втекти. За даними Управління захисту конституції Австрії, яке розслідує справу, це молоді люди турецького походження, котрі за кілька годин до нападу вчинили бійку на площі Реумана, займалися там хуліганством і кидали петарди. Наразі поліції вдалося встановити особи десяти членів групи нападників. Це радикально налаштовані ісламісти, які неодноразово привертали до себе увагу, бо місяцями тероризують людей навколо віденського району Фаворитена.
