Через удар та пожежу потерпілі практично не мали шансів вижити, як і решта людей, які знаходилися на борту. Слідчий установив, що смерть усіх дев’яти жертв спричинили травми у зв’язку із сильним тупим ударом.
Розслідування виявило, що пілот, імовірно, порушив федеральні правила ще до аварії, коли підняв гелікоптер у хмари. Можливо, це було однією з головних причин трагедії, унаслідок якої він сам та всі пасажири на борту загинули.
За словами слідчих, пілот Ара Зобаян був дезорієнтований через те, що залетів у хмари. Як зазначила рада, рух через хмари є порушенням державних стандартів. Пілот летів за правилами візуального польоту, тому йому треба було бачити, куди він прямує. До виходу з хмар вертоліт різко накренився і врізався в пагорб.
У гелікоптера не було чорної скриньки, оскільки він не входив до стандартного обладнання, на відміну, наприклад, від пасажирських літаків чи рятувальних вертольотів. Чорний ящик містить великий відсоток усіх важливих даних, починаючи з радіорозмов у кабіні та записаних даних польоту, зокрема про швидкість, рух та параметри літального транспортного засобу.
