Az angliai Cambridgeshire megyében, a Johnson’s of Old Hurst állatkertben történt a megrázó incidens csütörtökön kora délután. A rendőrséget helyi idő szerint 13:24-kor riasztották, miután bejelentés érkezett arról, hogy egy kisgyerek a krokodilok kifutójába került.
A hatóságok egy 30 éves, Norfolkból származó férfit vettek őrizetbe emberölési kísérlet gyanújával. A nyomozók szerint a férfi és a gyermek nem ismerték egymást.
A The Independent beszámolója szerint helyiek azt állítják, hogy az állatkert tulajdonosának felesége, Tracey Johnson habozás nélkül a kifutóba ugrott, hogy kimentse a gyereket. A kisfiú súlyos sérüléseket szenvedett, sajtóértesülések szerint eltört a karja és a medencéje is.
A gyermeket mentőhelikopterrel szállították kórházba, ahol jelenleg kritikus, de stabil állapotban ápolják. Családját speciálisan képzett rendőrök segítik.
A Johnson’s of Old Hurst vezetése közölte, hogy a tragikus esemény miatt a krokodilház határozatlan időre bezár. Közleményükben azt írták, gondolataik és imáik a kisfiúval és családjával vannak.
A helyieket sokkolta az eset, többen hangsúlyozták, hogy az állatkertben megfelelő biztonsági intézkedések voltak érvényben, ezért továbbra is tisztázatlan, hogyan történhetett meg az incidens. A rendőrség nagy erőkkel nyomoz, és arra kér mindenkit, hogy tartózkodjon a találgatásoktól.
