Цьогорічному заходу завадили представники руху BLM (Black Lives Matter – «Життя чорних важливі»). Вони не давали провести мирне меморіальне дійство, зриваючи виступи криками та скандуванням гасел з використанням мегафонів.
Цьогорічний «список пам’яті» включав імена шести правоохоронців.
«Ми можемо пообіцяти 285 поліцейським, імена яких викарбувані на меморіальному знаку, що не забудемо ані їх, ані те, що вони віддали свої життя заради громадськості», – заявив начальник управління поліції Джо Ен Міньйон.
Його виступ кілька разів переривали протестувальники, які не зважали навіть на хвилину мовчання.
Окрім поліцейських, у меморіальному заході взяли участь і політики, зокрема губернатор штату Вісконсин. Проте згодом ніхто з посадовців не висловився з приводу інциденту.
