Saleem Assi kormányzati tisztviselő közölte, hogy a balesetet még vizsgálják, de a jelek szerint a megengedettnél jóval többen tartózkodtak a hajó fedélzetén. Shehbaz Sharif miniszterelnök nyilatkozatban fejezte ki fájdalmát és szomorúságát az eset miatt, és arra kérte a hatóságokat, hogy tegyenek meg mindent az eltűnt utasok felkutatása érdekében.
