За інформацією джерела, трагедія трапилася в місті Калабасас (Каліфорнія, США). Вертоліт впав і загорівся, а всі, хто в ньому перебував, загинули.

У 41-річного Брайанта залишилася дружина Ванесса і чотири дочки.
Брайант всю свою кар’єру з 1996-го по 2016-й рік виступав за „Лос-Анджелес Лейкерс”. З командою атакуючий захисник став п’ятикратним чемпіоном НБА (2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010), найкращим гравцем чемпіонату-2008, а також 18 разів брав участь у Матчі всіх зірок. На рахунку баскетболіста величезна кількість рекордів в найсильнішій баскетбольній лізі світу.
