 Roman Ivanovot, aki a RusNews online lapnak dolgozik, az orosz hadseregről szóló „álhírek” közzétételéért ítélték el a háborús cenzúratörvények alapján, amelyeket nem sokkal Ukrajna két évvel ezelőtti teljes körű inváziója után fogadtak el.
  
 Oroszország ezeket a törvényeket arra használta, hogy lecsapjon azokra az újságírókra és aktivistákra, akik olyan információkról számolnak be, amelyek ellentmondanak a Kreml narratíváinak arról, amit Moszkva különleges katonai műveletnek nevez Ukrajnában.
 Ivanovra a koroljovi városi bíróság ügyésze nyolc év börtönbüntetést kért.
 Az Ivanov elleni vádak az ukrajnai Bucsában történt mészárlásról, az ENSZ háborús bűnökről szóló jelentéséről és az ukrán polgári infrastruktúrára mért orosz rakétacsapásokról írt cikkei miatt merültek fel.
 Ivanov a második RusNews újságíró, akit „álhírek” miatt börtönbe zártak, miután kolléganőjét, Marija Ponomarenkót a múlt hónapban hat évre ítélték, amiért azzal vádolta Moszkvát, hogy az ukrajnai Mariupolban egy színházat bombázott az invázió első hónapjaiban.
 A RusNews egy másik újságírója ellen több mint három évvel ezelőtti utcai tüntetésekre buzdító, „szélsőségességre” való nyilvános felhívás vádjával folyik eljárás.

 A szerkesztőnőt azzal vádolják, hogy elmulasztotta külföldi ügynökként regisztráltatni magát.
 Vádat emeltek a Szabad Európa Rádió (SZER) egyik újságírója, Alsu Kurmasheva ellen Oroszországban. A Prágában élő orosz-amerikai kettős állampolgárságú szerkesztő május 20-án utazott be Oroszországba családi ügy miatt, amikor távozni akart, a repülőtéren őrizetbe vették, elvették az útleveleit, és pénzbírságot szabtak ki rá.
 A Szabad Európa Rádió közleménye szerint az orosz hatóságok azért emeltek vádat Kurmasheva ellen, mert elmulasztotta külföldi ügynökként regisztráltatni magát. Közleményében a SZER követeli, hogy bocsássák szabadon az újságírót, aki akár ötéves börtönbüntetést is kaphat.
 A külföldi ügynök kifejezést Oroszországban olyan szervezetekre, újságírókra, aktivistákra, akár művészekre alkalmazzák, akikről úgy tartják, hogy külföldi támogatású politikai tevékenységet folytatnak. A Tatar-Inform orosz hírügynökség az üggyel kapcsolatban közölte: Kurmashevát azért vették őrizetbe, mert Oroszország katonai tevékenységéről gyűjtött információkat.
 Oroszországban a sajtó működését különösen szigorúan kezdték ellenőrizni az Ukrajna ellen indított háború megindítása után. Számos független hírközlő médiumot bezárásra kényszerítettek, és több újságírót, illetve kiadványt „külföldi ügynöknek” minősítettek. Miután márciusban kémkedés vádjával őrizetbe vették Evan Gershkovichot, a The Wall Street Journal munkatársát, szinte az összes amerikai újságíró távozott Oroszországból.
 A prágai és washingtoni központtal működő Szabad Európa Rádió működését az amerikai kongresszus finanszírozza. A Bizottság az Újságírók Védelmére (CPJ) nevű jogvédő szervezet aggodalmának adott hangot szerdán amiatt, hogy Kurmashevát „hamis vádak” alapján vették őrizetbe, és felszólította az orosz hatóságokat, hogy azonnal engedjék őt szabadon.

 Marina Ovszjannyikova csütörtökön került kórházba, miután párizsi lakásából kilépve hirtelen rosszul lett. Az újságíró azt gyanítja, hogy megmérgezték. A rendőrség átvizsgálta a lakását és jelenleg is nyomoz az ügyben.
  
 Ovszjannyikova 2022 márciusában élő adásban rontott be az orosz állami televízió 1-es csatornájának híradójába, amikor éppen a híreket olvasták be. Kezében hatalmas transzparens volt, amelyen az állt:  Állítsák meg a háborút! Ne higgyenek a propagandának, Itt hazudnak önöknek.
   
 A televíziós incidens után Ovszjannyikovát előállították, de akkor még csak pénzbírsággal sújtották. Miután távozott a tévétől külföldre ment, és a Die Welt című német lapnál kapott állást oroszországi és ukrajnai ügyek tudósítójaként. Júliusban hazatért Moszkvába, hogy küzdjön két kiskorú gyermekéért, akiket a volt férje el akar venni tőle.
 Egy orosz bíróság október elején nyolc és fél év börtönbüntetésre ítélte a volt újságírónőt „az orosz fegyveres erőkről szóló, tudatosan hamis információk terjesztése” miatt.

 A 45 éves újságírónő egy éve menekült el Oroszországból a lányával egy meg nem nevezett európai országba, miután megszökött a házi őrizetből.
 Az újságírónő tavaly márciusban a Pervij Kanal orosz csatorna esti híradójának élő adásában a műsorvezető háta mögött feltartott egy, a háború megállítását követelő plakátot, amelyben arra szólította fel a nézőket, hogy ne higgyenek a „propagandának” és a „hazugságoknak”. Júliusban pedig a Kremllel szembeni folyóparton egy plakátot tartott a magasba, amelyen Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnököt gyilkosnak, az orosz katonákat pedig fasisztának nevezte. Ezt követően került augusztusban házi őrizetbe.

Moszkva a héten támogatásáról biztosította Belgrádot a koszovói konfliktusban, amely azt követően lángolt fel, hogy a koszovói kormány szombaton bejelentette: augusztus 1-jétől azok, akik szerbiai dokumentumokkal akarnak belépni Koszovóba, kilépési és belépési igazolást kapnak az átkelőknél, valamint a szerb rendszámtáblájukat is le kell cserélniük a belépésnél ideiglenes koszovói táblára.
 A hétvégén a határövezetben kialakult szembenállást követően Pristina amerikai felhívásra úgy döntött, hogy egy hónappal elhalasztja az intézkedés bevezetését.
 Koszovó lakosságának mintegy 90 százaléka albán, körülbelül öt százaléka szerb nemzetiségű. Koszovó az Európai Unióhoz és az Egyesült Államokhoz hasonlóan elítélte Ukrajna orosz invázióját és szankciókat is vezetett be Oroszország ellen.
