 Noha a tűzoltók gyorsan eloltották a lángokat, a Bild szerint jelentős károk keletkeztek és bár a tűz okát még nem tisztázták, azt úgy tűnik, hogy Molotov-koktél okozhatta.
 Az épület falain pedig friss feliratok tanúskodtak a támadók szándékairól. Olyan szlogenek szerepeltek a falakon, mint „Ha Gáza ég, Berlin is égni fog!” vagy „Szabadságot Gázának”, „Szabadságot a Hamásznak”. A támadók további gyújtogatást is kilátásba helyeztek.
