Екс-менеджер Twitter Ахмад Абуаммо в середу, 14 грудня, засудили до 3,5 років ув’язнення за шпигунство на користь Саудівської Аравії. Сторона звинувачення в суді довела, що він передав дані користувачів Twitter, потенційно зазнаючи їх переслідувань.

ЗМІ зазначає, що чоловік намагався знайти інформацію про двох користувачів Twitter. За цю послугу він отримав кілька сотень тисяч доларів і годинник, вартістю 42 тисячі доларів США.
Присяжні Федерального суду в Сан-Франциско у серпні визнали Абуаммо винним у висунутих йому звинуваченнях. Спочатку йому загрожувало покарання у вигляді позбавлення волі на строк до десяти років.
Прокуратура вимагала покарання понад сім років позбавлення волі. Адвокати Абуаммо попросили у федерального окружного судді Едварда Чена вирок, який їхній клієнт міг би відбувати у своєму будинку в Сіетлі. Вони аргументували це проблемами зі здоров’ям чоловіка, відсутністю судимості та сімейними проблемами, які торкнулися його під час роботи у Twitter у 2013-2015 роках.
За словами адвокатів Абуаммо, його дії були відносно «бліді» у порівнянні зі збитками, завданими іншим колишнім співробітником Twitter, Алі Альзабара. Останнього звинуватили в тому, що він надав Саудівській Аравії тисячі акаунтів у Twitter і залишив США ще до того, як його засудили.
