Він викликає симптоми і в людей (як легкі, так і важкі), а в деяких випадках навіть може призводити до летальних наслідків. У березні В’єтнам повідомив ВООЗ про смерть людини від вірусу.

У звітах говориться, що деякі люди отримали травми від задухи, а інші отримали переломи кінцівок, коли вони стрибали з верхніх поверхів, намагаючись врятуватися від вогню.
