A CNA jelentése szerint Antony Blinken amerikai külügyminiszter pénteken felszólította Izraelt, hogy tegyen lépéseket a gázai polgári lakosság védelme érdekében, miután az izraeli erők szüntelenül bombázzák a területet, eközben azonban a halálos áldozatok száma jelentősen emelkedett.
Mint ismert, az izraeli hadsereg bejelentette, miután bekerítette Gáza városát, csapatai közelharcot vívtak a Hamász fegyvereseivel a romos gázai utcákon, azzal a céllal, hogy megsemmisítsék a sűrűn lakott terület felett ellenőrzést gyakorló fegyveres csoportot.
Az izraeli erők egész éjjel bombázták Gázát, földről, a tengerről, és a levegőből is, miközben a nemzetközi sajtóban sorra jelennek meg a hírek az összeomló gázai egészségügy és infrastruktúra kapcsán. A legfrissebb hírek szerint a civil áldozatok száma meghaladta a 9000 főt a Gázai övezetben.
Anthony Blinken pedig alig egy hónapon belül már másodjára látogatott el személyesen a térségbe, hogy biztosítsa Izraelt az Egyesült Államok támogatásáról azután, hogy a Hamász október 7-én meglepetésszerű támadássorozatot indított Izrael ellen, melynek következtében legkevesebb 1400 ember életét vesztette.
Noha Blinken megismételte, Izraelnek joga van „mindent megtenni” annak érdekében, hogy ilyen támadás soha többé ne fordulhasson elő, hozzátette:
„Nagyon fontos, hogy amikor a Hamász által előidézett kereszttűzbe került civilek védelméről van szó, mindent meg kell tenni a védelmük érdekében, és segítséget kell nyújtani azoknak, akiknek olyan nagy szükségük van rá, és akik semmilyen módon nem felelősek az október 7-én történtekért.”
