A hatóságok éjszakába nyúlóan dolgoztak a helyszínen, hogy újra megindulhasson a közlekedés. A helyszínen készített felvételek is bizonyítják, nagyon súlyos volt a helyzet, és rengeteg mentőt riasztottak.
Rövid idő alatt csapódtak egymásba az autók, igazi káosz alakult ki. A New York Post azt írja, egyes járművek lángolni kezdtek, ami csak súlyosbította a helyzetet, majd kiabálások hallatszottak.
Drámaiak voltak a körülmények, és órákkal a balesetek után még mindig érezni lehetett az égett roncsok szagát. Kamionok ugyancsak részesei voltak a hatalmas balesethullámnak, és valaki azt mondta, 30 percen át csak csattanásokat hallott, egyre több autó lett érintett ebben.
25 embert szállítottak kórházba, akik között vannak kritikus állapotban lévők is, míg sokan mások maguk kerestek orvosi segítséget. A hatóságok először azon voltak, hogy értesítsék a családtagokat, de ezzel egy időben már vizsgálni kezdték a körülményeket.
A balesetben érintett járművek között volt egy veszélyes folyadékot szállított tartálykocsi is, amit a lehető leghamarabb ki kellett emelni. Szerencsére robbanások nem történtek, mert ellenkező esetben valószínűleg sokkal többen haltak volna meg.

Kisiklott egy veszélyes vegyi anyagot szállító vonat Louisianaban, a környéken evakuálást rendeltek el.

Az érintett szakaszon, a tilalmi zónához közeli utcákat lezárták és evakuálják a lakosságot.a idősek otthonában menedékhelyet alakítottak ki az otthonaikat elhagyni kényszerülők számára.A hatóságok még nem közölték mi okozta a vonat kisiklását és az érintett vasúttársaságot sem nevezték meg.

A Nicholas kedden lelassult Houston felett, miután 1-es kategóriájú hurrikánként csapott le a texasi öböl partvidékére, és több mint félmillió lakos áramellátását szüntette meg. A Nemzeti Hurrikánközpont szerint a vihar még mindig “életveszélyes árvizeket” okozhat a déli mélységekben az elkövetkező napokban.
A Nicholas, az idei hurrikánszezon 14. névre keresztelt vihara több mint kilenc centiméternyi csapadékot zúdított Houstonra – és egyes területeken ennek több mint kétszeresét is elérheti. Több mint hatmillió emberre adtak ki figyelmeztetés a hirtelen áradások miatt Texas délkeleti részétől egészen Florida Panhandle-ig.
2017-ben a Harvey hurrikán ugyanezen a területen rekordmennyiségű, 60 centiméternyi esővel csapott le, de Louisiana is lábadozik a két héttel ezelőtti Ida hurrikán után – írja a CBS News.
