A szennyvíz a francia-svájci Lafarge-Holcim vállalat cementgyárából került a folyó vizébe. A cég szabotázsakcióra hivatkozott közleményében.
„Ez egy hatalmas környezetvédelmi botrány” – hangsúlyozta Twitter-oldalán tett bejegyzésében Anne Hidalgo párizsi polgármester. Most az ügyészségnek kell vizsgálatot indítania, hogy kiderítsék, miként fordulhatott ez elő.
Egy rádiós híradás szerint a folyóba ömlött anyag cement, szennyvíz kezelésére szolgáló vegyszerek és mikroműanyagok elegye.
A szennyezésért felelős cég közleményében azt állította, hogy egy „rosszindulatú cselekmény áldozatává vált”, és a keletkezett léket időközben lezárták.
Környezetvédelmi aktivisták már régóta környezetszennyezéssel vádolják a Lafarge-Holcim vállalatot. A többi között februárban tüntettek a cég párizsi üzeme ellen.
