A polgári áldozatok száma február 24. óta, amikor Oroszország háborút indított Ukrajna ellen, az augusztus 21-i adatok szerint elérte a 13 477-et (egy héttel korábban 13 212 volt), köztük 5587-en életüket vesztették (5514) – jelentette be az ENSZ Emberi Jogi Főbiztosának Hivatala, számolt be az Interfax-Ukrajna.
„A legtöbb regisztrált halálesetet vagy sérülést robbanófegyverek, többek között nehéztüzérségi és rakétavetők alkalmazása, valamint rakéta- és légitámadások okozták”, áll az ENSZ által kiadott dokumentumban.
A jelentés szerint a legtöbb haláleset és sérülés a polgári lakosság körében Mariupol (Donyeck régió), Izjum (Harkiv régió), Liszicsanszk, Popaszna és Szeverodonyeck (Luhanszki régió) városokban történt.
Az ENSZ adatai szerint 2125 férfi, 1490 nő, 175 fiú és 149 lány vesztette életét. 38 gyermek és 1574 felnőtt nemét pedig még nem sikerült meghatározni.
A 7890 sebesült között 236 fiú és 172 lány, valamint 202 olyan gyermek van, akiknek nemét még nem határozták meg.
Ha korábban az ENSZ Menekültügyi Főbiztosságának a veszteségek számáról készített összesítése, naponta, majd csak munkanapokon jelent meg, július óta heti rendszerességgel hozzák nyilvánosságra. A közleményeknek megfelelően március hónapban haltak meg a legtöbben, 3175-en vesztették életüket. Az ENSZ Emberi Jogi Főbiztosának Hivatala kiadványának adatai szerint áprilisban 677-re, májusban 460-ra, júniusban 368-ra, júliusban 360-ra csökkent a háború okozta polgári áldozatok száma. A háború első öt napjában, február 24–28. között 340-en haltak meg, augusztus három hetében pedig 207 – jegyzi meg az ENSZ.
Ugyanakkor júliusban a sebesültek száma – 1099, ez a szám meghaladta a júniusi és májusi – 1029, illetve 1012 főt – de kevesebb, mint áprilisban és márciusban (1254, illetve 2400).
Az adatok szerint augusztus első három hetében a nagy hatótávolságú robbanófegyverek 201 ember halálát okozták, 598-an megsebesültek.

A 3 és 16 év közötti gyerekek Dzsabáliától keletre, az al-Faludzsa temető közelében vesztették életüket.
Előző nap nyolc gázai palesztin civil halt meg az Iszlám Dzsihád rosszul sikerült rakétakilövése miatt, és a hadsereg úgy vélte: ez történt Dzsabália közelében is. A vizsgálat azonban arra a megállapításra jutott, hogy a robbanást az izraeli légierő egyik lövedéke okozta.

Az ENSZ Emberi Jogi Főbiztosának Hivatala csütörtökön közölte, hogy 4169 civil, köztük 268 gyermek vesztette életét az ukrajnai háborúban.
Elmondásuk szerint ezenkívül 4982-en sérültek meg. Az elhunytak közül 1580 férfi, 1038 nő, 99 kislány, 102 kisfiú és 67 gyerek, valamint 1283 felnőtt, kiknek nemét egyelőre nem tudták megállapítani.
2388 személy Donyeck és Luhanszk megyében, 1781 pedig Ukrajna más régióiban vesztette életét.
