Habár több forrásból is érkezett jelentés a robbantás kapcsán, egyelőre nem tudni biztosan, hogy ki állt a támadás mögött.
Az oroszok által támogatott kelet-ukrajnai szakadárok pénteken közölték, hogy valaki felrobbantott egy parkoló autót, melyben szerencsére senki sem tartózkodott a becsapódás idején.
A robbantás a kelet-ukrajnai Donyeck városának központjában történt, nem messze a szakadárok főhadiszállásától. Az önhatalmúlag kikiáltott Donyecki Népköztársaság egyik hírügynöksége eközben figyelmeztette a lakosságot, hogy ne menjenek ki az utcákra.
A jelentések szerint a robbanásban senki sem sérült meg, az autó üresen állt, a Reuters egyik szemtanúja szerint pedig az autó teljesen megsemmisült a hatalmas erejű robbanás következtében.
