A New York Post beszámolója szerint a floridai hatóságok nagyszabású nyomozást indítottak, miután egy tengerjáró utasának rejtélyes módon nyoma veszett, mégpedig nem sokkal azelőtt, hogy a hajó hétfőn visszatért Miami kikötőjébe.
Kifejtették, a 26 éves Kevin McGrath a bahamai Biminibe tartó Carnival Cruise fedélzetén tartózkodott, s a visszaút előtti napon a családjával kellett volna találkoznia a reggelinél, ám már ott sem jelent meg. Illetve a „kiterjedt keresést” követően sem találták meg.
A férfi családja hétfőn reggel 7 óra körül jelentette az eltűnését, a hajótársaság pedig a parti őrséggel és a miami rendőrséggel is kapcsolatba lépett. A Carnival Cruise szóvivője hozzátette, a biztonsági kamerarendszerek nem rögzítették, hogy McGrath a vízbe esett volna.
Az viszont kiderült, hogy az eltűnt utast hétfőn hajnali 2 óra körül látták utoljára, akkor fekete inget, rövidnadrágot és szürke cipőt viselt. A hatóságok kiemelték, ha bárki információval rendelkezik McGrath holléte felől, vagy az eltűnése kapcsán, vegye fel velük a kapcsolatot.
A Fox News szerint a parti őrség helikopterrel is kutatott a barna hajú, barna szemű, körülbelül 175 centi magas és 77 kiló súlyú férfi után, ám egyelőre nem jártak sikerrel. De a lap arra is kitért, egy héttel korábban hasonló eset történt a Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas tengerjárón, akkor egy 19 éves egyetemista tűnt el, miután a hajóról a vízbe zuhant. A holttestét azóta sem találták meg.

Több nap után élve találtak meg egy mocsárban egy amerikai nőt, aki a múlt héten tűnt el a Borderland Nemzeti Parkban – közölte a helyi rendőrség.
A 31 éves Emma Tetewsky segélykiáltásaira túrázók figyeltek fel. A nő eltűnését június 26-án jelentették be, és a rendőrség a nyilvánosság segítségét kérte megtalálásához.
Az eastoni rendőrség nyomozói elmondták, hogy túrázók hétfőn a segélyhívót tárcsázták, miután női kiáltásokra figyeltek fel a Bostontól mintegy ötven kilométerre délre fekvő Borderland Nemzeti Park egyik mocsaras területe felől.
A helyszínre érkező rendőrök is hallották a hangot, de először senkit sem láttak a sűrű növényzettől. Három tiszt körülbelül tizenöt métert gyalogolt a mocsárban, mire sikerült elérniük Tetewskyt.
A nyomozók szerint a nő legalább három napot tölthetett a mocsárban rekedve. Súlyos, de nem életveszélyes sérülésekkel szállították kórházba.

A Vatikán ismét felvette a nyomozást az 1983-ban eltűnt 15 éves lány, Emanuela Orlandi ügyében – jelentette hétfőn az ADN Kronos olasz hírügynökség.
Alessandro Diddi, a szentszék igazságügyi megbízottja a csendőrséggel közösen döntött a vizsgálat folytatásáról a 40 éve történt eltűnési ügyben. A nyomozás célja az eddig keletkezett akták, dokumentumok, beszámolók, információk és tanúvallomások ismételt ellenőrzése, valamint az új nyomok vizsgálata. A Vatikán szerint minden egyes részletet újból górcső alá vesznek a lány eltűnésének napjától. A nyomozás újrafelvételét a Ferenc pápa által szorgalmazott igazságkereső és átláthatósági törekvések keretében kezdeményezték.
Emanuela Orlandi 1983. június 22-én tűnt el Rómában. A 15 éves lány vatikáni állampolgár volt, mivel édesapja az egyházfő személyi titkárságaként működő Pápai Ház világi tisztviselőjeként dolgozott. A lány eltűnését a mai napig titok fedi, több olyan elmélet is született, miszerint a Vatikánnak is köze lehet a történtekhez. Az egyik ilyen népszerű teória szerint a lányt egy olyan banda hurcolhatta el, amely Vatikán bankjának akkori elnökét, Paul Marcinkust akarta zsarolni. Egy másik elmélet szerint Orlandit azért rabolták el, hogy elérhessék a török Ali Agca szabadon engedését, aki 1981-ben merényletet kísérelt meg II. János Pál pápa ellen.
Az eltűnési ügyet Olaszország leghíresebb megoldatlan rejtélyeként is emlegetik. 2019-ben a holttestét keresve felnyitották két hercegnő sírját a vatikáni német temetőben, de hiába. Egy évvel korábban a Vatikán olaszországi nunciatúrájának egyik melléképületében találtak „gyanús ”csontokat, de az ügyészség megállapította, hogy azok nem származnak sem Emanuelától, sem egy ugyanazon év nyarán eltűnt másik 15 éves római lánytól, Mirella Gregoritól.
Októberben egy Netflix-sorozat is foglalkozott az egykori nyomozással, köszönhetően szemtanúk tanúvallomásainak. A többi között Orlandi egykori barátnője arról beszélt, hogy az eltűnése előtti héten Emanuela azt állította, hogy „egy pápához közel álló személy” szexuálisan zaklatta.
„A hallgatás gyakran a legsúlyosabb bűncselekmény. Ez a legborzalmasabb, ami egy családdal történhet” – jelentette ki Pietro Orlandi, Emanuela testvére. Meggyőződése szerint a Vatikán pontosan tudja, mi történt testvérével, és hogy hol temették el.
Mint mondta, elérkezett az ideje az igazságnak, hogy 92 éves anyjuk legalább virágokat helyezhessen el lánya sírjára, bárhol is legyen az. Pietro Orlandi hozzátette: sosem fog felhagyni a kereséssel.
