Véget ért a hajtóvadászat a három nő lelövésével és egy kamasz lány megsebesítésével gyanúsított férfi után a Tennessee állambeli Memphisben, miután a rendőrség vasárnap holtan találta a férfit. A hatóságok szerint a lövöldöző öngyilkos lett.
A memphisi rendőrség az X-en arról írt, hogy a halálos lövöldözéssel gyanúsított 52 éves Mavis Christian Jr. holttestét egy fehér Chevrolet Malibuban találták meg vasárnap. Mint írták, a férfin egy lőtt sebet találtak, amelyet ő okozott saját magának.
A CNN szerint a nyomozók korábban nagy erőkkel nyomoztak a férfi után, miután ő lehetett az az ámokfutó, aki helyi idő szerint szombaton több embert is megölt.
„Az előzetes információk szerint családon belüli erőszak történt, és a gyanúsított az egyik áldozat hozzátartozója, aki a lövöldözés helyszínéről egy fehér Chevrolet Malibuval menekült el ismeretlen helyre” – közölte korábban a rendőrség. A közösségi médiában a gyanúsított fotóját is közzétették (még mielőtt kiderült volna, hogy öngyilkos lett).

Christopher Williams, a memphisi rendőrség szóvivője elmondta, hogy az egyik lövöldözés következtében egy nő és egy 13 éves lány meghalt, egy 15 éves kamasz pedig súlyosan megsebesült, állapota jelenleg is kritikus. A szóvivő hozzátette, hogy a férfi ezt követően még egy negyedik nőre is rálőtt, aki belehalt sérüléseibe.
A hatóságok egyelőre nem azonosították az áldozatokat, valamint nem adtak tájékoztatást arról, hogy milyen kapcsolatban álltak a gyanúsítottal.
