Folyamatosan emelkedik a Hawaii-szigeteken kedd óta pusztító erdő- és bozóttüzek halálos áldozatainak száma. Több száz ember eltűnt, sokan maradtak fedél nélkül. A sziget kormányzója közölte, amit lehet, minden segítséget megadnak a túlélőknek. Ez minden idők legnagyobb természeti katasztrófája, amely Hawaii-t érintette.
Már nyolcvankilenc ember halálát követelte a Hawaii-szigetcsoporton tomboló tűzvész. A legsúlyosabb helyzet Mauin alakult ki. A hatóságok szerint a Lahainánál tomboló lángok 80 százalékát már ellenőrzik a tűzoltók, míg Pulehunál 70 százalékban sikerült megfékezni a lángokat.
A BBC információi szerint több száz embert továbbra sem találnak, miközben szintén százak óvóhelyeken várakoznak Maui szigetén.
Nem tudunk mást tenni, mint várni, és segíteni a túlélőknek. Most arra összpontosítunk, hogy egyesítsük a családokat, és minél előbb lakáshoz, egészségügyi ellátáshoz juttassuk őket. Még kedden hirdettek ki vészhelyzetet a Hawaii-szigetcsoport több részén az erdőtüzek pusztítása miatt. A hatalmas tűz a Dora hurrikán széllökései és a száraz időjárási körülmények miatt alakulhatott ki. Az erős szél a tűzoltók munkáját is akadályozza, emellett ellehetetlenítette, hogy a lángokat helikopterek segítségével fékezzék meg. Helyenként óránkénti 100 kilométeres sebességű széllökéseket is mértek.
Pénteken Maui szigetén visszatérhettek a lakosok a tűzben elpusztult történelmi városba, Lahainába. Josh Green kormányzó csütörtökön a helyszínen úgy nyilatkozott, hogy a népszerű településből alig maradt több parázsló romoknál.

Újabb evakuálások vannak folyamatban a Hawaii szigetek egyikén, Mauin, mivel a lángok egyre közelebb kúsznak Kaanapali városához.
Eddig 80 ember halálát erősítették meg az amerikai állam történetének leghalálosabb természeti katasztrófájában. Több százan eltűntek, így a halálos áldozatok száma még emelkedhet Hawaiin – írja a BBC.
Közben újabb kitelepítések kezdődtek Mauin. A parancsot csak néhány órával azután léptették életbe, hogy a közeli Lahaina lakói rövid időre visszatérhettek, hogy számba vegyék a tűzvész sújtotta történelmi város kárait.
Hawaii főügyésze bejelentette, hogy „átfogó vizsgálatot” indítanak arról, hogyan reagáltak a hatóságok az erdőtüzekre, miközben egyre több a kérdőjel, hogy a hatóságok elég gyorsan figyelmeztették-e a lakosokat.
Az állami hatóságok pénteken nyitották meg újra Lahainát a lakhelyüket igazoló személyek előtt, először azóta, hogy a hét elején a lángok gyorsan végigsöpörtek a tengerparti város nagy részét elpusztítva, amely gazdag történelemmel rendelkezik és évente mintegy kétmillió turistát vonz.
De néhány órával később az utat újra lezárták. Még órákkal később is kilométeres sor állt az úton. A lahainai lakosok azt mondták, otthonaikat kifosztották, de a rendőrség nem erősítette meg a fosztogatásról terjengő híreket.
Korábban Josh Green helyi kormányzó arra figyelmeztetett, hogy a lakosokat „olyan pusztítás képe fogadja majd, amilyet soha életükben nem láttak még”.
Nyugat-Maui, ahol Lahaina és Kaanapali található, továbbra is áram és vezetékes víz nélkül van. A mentőcsapatok még mindig a térségben vannak, hogy az erdőtűz áldozatait felkutassák.
A vízben is zajlik a keresés. A parti őrség közölte, hogy eddig 17 embert húztak ki élve a tengerből a város kikötője közelében. A jelentések szerint mindegyikük állapota stabil.

A szigeten sok gazdag ember él, köztük az Amazon alapítója, Jeff Bezos. Ő és élettársa, Lauren Sanchez 100 millió dollárt ajánlottak fel a tűz áldozatainak megsegítésére.

Már több mint 50 halálos áldozata van a Hawaii-szigeteken pusztító tűzvésznek, de félő, hogy ez a szám tovább emelkedik, ugyanis több mint 1000 embert keresnek, és a lángokat sem sikerült még teljesen megfékezni.

Hatósági közlés szerint erdőtűzzel küzdenek a Maui és a Hawaii- (más néven Nagy-) szigeten egyaránt. Az amerikai parti őrség 12 embert mentett ki a tengerből Lahaina közelében – közölte a szervezet az X (korábban: Twitter – a szerk.) közösségi platformon.
Lahaina turisták által látogatott városrészében több épületben is károkat okozott a tűz – közölte Mahina Martin, Maui megye szóvivője szerdán telefonon. Hozzátette: a hatékony evakuálás érdekében a biztonságos helyen tartózkodókat arra kérik, hogy ne induljanak útnak.
A hatóságok mikroblog-bejegyzésben és a Lahainába vezető utakon figyelmeztető táblákkal szólították fel a látogatókat, hogy „ne lépjenek be a város területére”.
A tüzek oltását az olykor óránként 90-120 kilométeres széllökések és az extrém szárazság is nehezíti. Az amerikai Országos Időjárási Szolgálat (NSW) közlése alapján az oltást a Dora hurrikán is akadályozza, amely mintegy 800 kilométer távolságban pusztít a Hawaii-szigetek déli területein.
Halálos áldozatokról nem érkezett jelentés.
A keletkezett anyagi kár mértéke egyelőre ismeretlen.
Hawaii-szigeten vörös szintű riasztás van érvényben. Sylvia Luke kormányzó szerdán szükségállapotot hirdetett, és elrendelte a nemzeti gárda bevetését.
Maui-szigeten kedd éjszaka mintegy 14 és fél ezren maradtak áram nélkül, számos házat megrongált az orkánerejű szél, a tűzoltó helikopterek használatát átmenetileg fel kellett függeszteni. A tűzoltók egész éjjel dolgoztak a kidőlt fák és villanyoszlopok eltávolításán az utakról. Hasonló káreseményekről érkezett bejelentés Oahu szigetéről is, ahol a főváros, Honolulu található.

Három hónapos szünet után ismét kitört a Hawaii szigetén található Kilauea, a világ egyik legaktívabb vulkánja – jelentették be az amerikai földtani intézet (USGS) hawaii vulkánfigyelő szolgálatának kutatói.
A Hawaii Vulkánmegfigyelő Intézet munkatársai a Nagy Sziget Nemzeti Parkban található tűzhányó csúcsán lévő webkamerák felvételein izzást észleltek csütörtökön, ami arra utal, hogy a tűzhányó elkezdett működni. A kitörés előtt az intézet arról számolt be, hogy a kutatók fokozódó földmozgások és a talaj deformációjának elváltozásait észlelték kedd este.
„Jelenleg nem látjuk aktivitás jeleit a hasadékövezetben” – mondta Mike Zoeller, a megfigyelőintézet geológusa. „Nincs okunk arra számítani, hogy olyan kitörés kezdődjön, amely a szigeten élő lakosságot lávafolyammal veszélyeztetné”. A kutató azt is elmondta, hogy a láva a csúcson lévő kalderában maradt tehát még mindig van elég hely ahhoz, hogy további láva kiáramlást hozzon létre anélkül, hogy veszélyeztetné a közeli házakat vagy az infrastruktúrát.

A tűzhányó kráterét beborító lávató 371 hektár kiterjedésű.
A világ egyik legaktívabb vulkánja tavaly decemberben két héten át egy időben működött a szomszédos Mauna Loa vulkánnal, ami számos turistát vonzott a Hawaii Vulkánok Nemzeti Parkba. December közepén a két vulkán aktivitása egy időben szűnt meg. A Kilauea a Hawaii-szigetcsoport legnagyobb szigetén található, a világ aktív vulkánjai között a legtöbb kitörés fűződik hozzá.

Az amerikai parti őrség hetek óta egy feltételezett orosz kémhajót követ nyomon Hawaii térségében – közölte az amerikai védelmi minisztérium.
A tájékoztatás szerint az orosz hadihajó feltételezhetően kémtevékenységet folytat az Egyesült Államok kizárólagos gazdasági övezetében. A tárca szóvivője szerint mindez „kényes időpontban” történik. A szóban forgó hajó egyelőre nemzetközi vizeken tartózkodik, és eddig nem figyeltek meg veszélyes vagy szakszerűtlen viselkedést.
A parti őrség közölte, hogy összhangban a nemzetközi tengerjogi egyezményekkel, külföldi hadihajók átkelhetnek más államok kizárólagos gazdasági övezetén. Ismét kitört Hawaii legnagyobb vulkánja, a Kilauea.
A tűzhányó kráterén belül csütörtökön ismét folyékony láva tört a felszínre, alig egy hónappal a legutóbbi aktivitás megszűnését követően. A Kilauea a Hawaii-szigetcsoport legnagyobb szigetén található, a világ aktív vulkánjai között a legtöbb kitörés fűződik hozzá. Legutóbb 2021 szeptemberében tört ki, és működése 16 hónapon keresztül tartott, tavaly decemberben észlelték aktivitásának megszűnését.
A Hawaii Vulkánfigyelő Szolgálat közleménye szerint a kráteren belüli láva megjelenése az újabb kitörés kezdetét jelzi. A vulkán működése lakott területeket közvetlenül nem fenyeget.
A Kiluaea tavaly decemberben két héten át egy időben működött a szomszédos Mauna Loa vulkánnal, ami számos turistát vonzott a Hawaii Vulkánok Nemzeti Parkba. December közepén a két vulkán aktivitása egy időben szűnt meg.
A Mauna Loa vulkánból kiömlő forró láva decemberben sem okozott közvetlen veszélyt lakott területre, ugyanakkor néhány kilométerre megközelített Hawaii központi szigetének kulcsfontosságú autópályáját. A Kilauea vulkán 2018-as kitörése során 700 lakóingatlant semmisített meg.

Figyelmeztetést adott ki az amerikai földtani intézet (USGS) a vasárnap kitört hawaii Mauna Loa vulkán miatt.
A kiömlő láva egyelőre csak a kráter térségében került felszínre, a hegy környékén lévő települések nincsenek veszélyben, a figyelmeztetés pedig csupán a kráter környékére érvényes.

Hawaii legaktívabb vulkánja, a Kilauea kürtőjébe zuhanva vesztette életét egy idős férfi – közölte kedden a Hawaii Tribune Herald.
A férfit hétfőn reggel jelentették eltűntnek a hawaii nemzeti park (Hawaii Volcanoes National Park) területén. A 75 éves helybéli lakos holttestét később a tűzhányóban találták meg és 30 méteres mélységből hozták fel a parkőrök helikopter segítségével.
A férfi állítólag „lezárt területről” zuhant a mélybe, a hatóságok ezért vizsgálatot indítottak az ügyben.
A vulkáni nemzeti parkot egyébként – amely a Hawaii-szigeten, vagy másként a Nagy Szigeten található – nem zárják le, sőt, későn este is nyitva tart: sok a helybéli és a turista, aki az elmúlt hónapok több kitörése után kialakult, izzó lávatavat látogatja meg.
Az amerikai földtani intézet (USGS) szerint a Kilauea tavaly szeptember 29. óta aktív ismét, s a baleset napján egy 4,3-as erősségű földrengés is volt a térségben, de nem keletkeztek jelentősebb épületkárok.
Az USGS szóvivője felhívta a figyelmet, hogy a Kilauea fokozott tevékenységi fázisba lépett, amely növeli újabb kitörések valószínűségét.
