A 31 éves Muhammad Masood egy minnesotai kutató klinikán dolgozott, amikor kiderült, hogy az ISIS-hez akar csatlakozni.
Az ügyben érintett pakisztáni orvost a kormány informátorai buktatták le, akiknek azt mondta, az ismert terrorszervezethez akar csatlakozni és kész értük harcolni. A férfit még 2020-ban tartóztatták le, de már akkor tudni lehetett, hogy hosszú börtönbüntetés vár rá.
A pakisztáni orvos azt mondta, a fronton akar harcolni az Iszlám Államért, pénteken pedig megszületett az ítélet, melynek értelmében a következő 18 évét biztosan börtönben kell töltenie, amiért megpróbált az ISIS-hez csatlakozni.
A New York Times azt írja, hogy 31 éves férfi bűnösnek vallotta magát abban, hogy anyagi támogatást akart nyújtani a terrorszervezetnek. Az informátoroknak arról is beszélt, hogy magányos farkasként hajtana végre támadásokat az Egyesült Államokban, illetve harcolna és orvosként dolgoznak az ISIS-nek a Közel-Keleten.
Kész volt ártatlanokat ölni
Ha 18 év múlva szabadlábra is kerül, az azt követő 5 évben felügyelet alatt marad. 2020 márciusban tartóztatták le Minnesotában egy repülőtéren, mielőtt felszállhatott volna egy Los Angelesbe tartó járatra, ahol teherhajón keresztül ment volna tovább, egészen a Közel-Keletig, hogy csatlakozhasson az ismert terrorszervezethez.
Ügyvédje rendkívül szigorúnak nevezte az ítéletet, tekintettel védence mentális betegségeire. A bírót mindezt nem hatotta meg, és súlyos ítéletben részesítette az orvost, aki kész lett volna ártatlanokat gyilkolni.
Masood 2018 óta H-1B vízummal élt az Egyesült Államokban, és szülőhazájában, Pakisztánban orvosi engedéllyel rendelkezett. Titkosított közösségi médiaplatformon keresztül lépett kapcsolatba két kormányzati informátorral, akikről azt hitte, hogy az Iszlám Állam tagjai, és segítenek neki csatlakozni a szervezethez. Az Iszlám Állam (ISIS) terrorszervezetnek egy üzemanyag-objektum elleni támadását sikerült megakadályozni az oroszországi Tver megyében – közölte csütörtökön az orosz Szövetségi Biztonsági Szolgálat (FSZB).
A robbantásos merényletre készülő, az egyik közép-ázsiai köztársaságból származó, de orosz állampolgárságot szerzett férfit az FSZB kommandósai „semlegesítették”, amikor az elfogásakor fegyveres ellenállást tanúsított.
A tájékoztatás szerint a gyanúsított otthonában laboratóriumot hozott létre robbanóanyagok összeállítására.
A helyszínen a hatóságok lőfegyvert, lőszert, házilag összeszerelt robbanószerkezetet és robbanóanyagot foglaltak le. Az ügyben terrorcselekmény előkészítése címén eljárás indult.
Alekszandr Bortnyikov, az FSZB igazgatója március elején azt mondta, hogy Oroszországban az elmúlt tíz év alatt mintegy kétszáz terrorcselekményt sikerült megakadályozniuk a biztonsági szerveknek.
