İlçehin Pehlivan kapitány az Isztambulból Seattle-be tartó repülés közben meghalt. 2007 óta dolgozott a légitársaságnál.
A Turkish Airlines egyik kapitánya meghalt, miután hirtelen rosszul lett egy Isztambul-Seattle-i járaton, ezért leszállásra kényszerült a gép New Yorkban – közölte a társaság szóvivője szerdán.
„İlçehin Pehlivan, a TK204-es számú járatot Seattle és Isztambul között üzemeltető, TC-LGR Airbus 350-es repülőgépünk kapitánya elájult a repülés közben” – mondta Yahya Üstün az X-en közzétett bejegyzésében.
„Miután a fedélzeten lévő kapitányunk első orvosi vizsgálata nem volt meggyőző, a pilótafülke személyzete úgy döntött, hogy kényszerleszállást hajtanak végre, de a kapitányunk a leszállás előtt meghalt.”
Pehlivan, aki 2007 óta dolgozott a törökországi zászlóshajó légitársaságnál, 59 éves volt.
Pehlivan halála volt a Turkish Airlines első ilyen esete, de az elmúlt években több hasonló eset is előfordult.
2022-ben két pilóta halt meg a repülés közben. Az Egyesült Államokban az Envoy Air egyik pilótája munkaképtelenné vált egy Ohióba tartó repülés közben, majd később meghalt.
Eközben Délkelet-Ázsiában egy, a Citilink Indonesia-nál dolgozó pilóta meghalt egy járat közbeni egészségügyi vészhelyzetben.
2023-ban a LATAM Airlines egyik pilótája szívleállást szenvedett, és egy Miami–Chile kereskedelmi járat szolgálata közben meghalt.

A gép Seattle-ből tartott Isztambulba. A pilóta röviddel indulás után lett rosszul, és emiatt a másodpilóták úgy döntöttek, kényszerleszállást hajtanak végre. Megpróbálták a pilótát újraéleszteni, de nem jártak sikerrel, és az 59 éves férfi elhunyt, mire a gép New Yorkban leszállt.
A Turkish Airlines közleménye szerint a pilóta 2007 óta dolgozott a cégnél, és a legutóbbi orvosi vizsgálatán semmi nem utalt olyan egészségügyi problémára, amely miatt nem repülhetett volna.

Nowak a kedd délutáni sajtókonferencián elmondta: a Romániából indított pilóta nélküli repülőgép kiképzési rutinfeladatot hajtott végre, melynek során leszállási manővert kellett volna teljesítenie a miroslawieci repülőtéren, majd onnan visszatért volna Romániába. A kényszerleszállásról azután döntöttek, hogy a misszió teljesítése során a drón elveszítette a kapcsolatot a romániai bázissal.
A drón a repülőtérnek egy olyan övezetében szállt le, amely teljesen biztonságos, és amelyet üres üzemanyagtartályok vagy fegyverek ledobására használnak harci repülőgépek kényszerleszállása esetén.
Nowak közölte: a pilóta nélküli eszköz megrongálódott. Megerősítette: a drón nem hordozott fegyvert, és leszállás előtt felhasználta a tartályában lévő üzemanyagot.
Bejelentette: az incidens okait az amerikai fél fogja vizsgálni.

A BBC azt írja, hogy a Boeing 737 Max közismerten egy probléma repülőgéptípus, 2019-ben átmenetileg az összeset forgalmon kívül helyezték, miután kettő is lezuhant. Ezután az összeset átalakították. A kiszakadt elem a BBC szerint valószínűleg egy vészkijáratként is használható része volt a gépnek. Végül úgy döntött, hogy elmondja nekik, és nem sokkal később közölte azt, amit valószínűleg egy légiutas sem szeretne: hogy egy mérges kígyó van a fedélzeten, és most megpróbálja minél hamarabb letenni a gépet.
Erasmus szerint abban a pillanatban halálos csend lett a fedélzeten. A gépet sikerült letenni Welkom városánál, nagyjából 150 kilométerre az indulástól.

A repülőn utazó 136 utassal emiatt körülbelül az út felénél, kevesebb mint egy órával a felszállás után közölték, hogy a járatnak Csúbu régió nemzetközi repülőterén kényszerleszállást kell végrehajtania. A landolás utáni kimenekítés során több utas is könnyebben megsérült, amikor a felfújható csúszdán lecsúsztak a gépről, nagyobb baj nem történt.
