A mianmari katonai junta mintegy hatezer foglyot, köztük 180 külföldit enged szabadon Nagy-Britanniától való függetlenségének 77. évfordulója alkalmából – számolt be az Index az MTI nyomán.
Az amnesztia alatt több fogvatartott börtönbüntetését is enyhítették, de nem tisztázták, hogy a rendelkezés a politikai foglyokat is érinti-e.
Paetongtarn Sinavatra, Thaiföld miniszterelnöke reményét fejezte ki, hogy az elengedendők között lesz az a négy thaiföldi halász is, akiket a mianmari haditengerészet novemberben vett őrizetbe, miután hajójuk állítólag belépett a mianmari felségvizekre.
Egy külön közleményből kiderült, hogy Min Aung Hlaing, a junta vezetője 15 évre csökkentette 144, korábban életfogytiglanra ítélt fogoly börtönbüntetését.

Mianmarban jelentősen emelkedett a Jagi szupertájfun okozta áradások és villámárvizek halottjainak száma, az állami televízió keddi beszámolója szerint már 226-an meghaltak, 77-en pedig eltűntek.
Az ENSZ Humanitárius Ügyek Koordinációs Hivatala (UNOCHA) szerint Mianmarban 631 ezer embert érintettek az áradások. A hivatalos adatok szerint a hónap elején Délkelet-Ázsiát sújtó Jagi szupertájfunt követő áradások és földcsuszamlások összesen több mint 500 ember halálát okozták Mianmarban, Vietnámban, Laoszban és Thaiföldön.
Az MRTV helyi adó szerint az áradások csaknem 260 ezer hektárnyi rizsföldet és más termést is elpusztítottak az országban, 26 700 lakóházat megrongáltak.
Kilenc régióban csaknem 400 segélytábort nyitottak. Az UNOCHA, amely arról számolt be, hogy sürgős szükség van élelmiszerre, ivóvízre, menedékre és ruházatra, azt közölte,
a kommunikációs vonalak leálltak, az utakat víz lepte el és hidak rongálódtak meg, ami súlyosan akadályozza a segélyezési erőfeszítéseket.
A rossz kommunikáció, különösen a távoli területekkel, szintén megnehezíti az esetleges áldozatokról szóló információ gyűjtését. Az országot 2011-ben és 2015-ben súlyos áradások sújtották, amelyek mindkétszer több mint 100 ember halálát okozták, míg 2008-ban a Nargis ciklon dühöngése idején több mint 138 ezer halt meg vagy tűnt el.
A junta vezetője, Min Aung Hlaing szombaton nemzetközi segítségre szólított fel az árvizek felszámolásához, ami kivételes lépés, mivel a burmai kormány a múltban inkább akadályozta a külföldről érkező humanitárius segélyeket. Eddig India az egyetlen ország, amely reagált, és tíz tonna segélyt küldött, többek között élelmiszereket, ruhákat és gyógyszereket. UNOCH szerint sürgősen további forrásokra van szükség.

A katonai junta ellen küzdő Népvédelmi Erők (PDF) szóvivője szerint a támadást hétfő reggel követték el, és az áldozatok egy esküvő résztvevői voltak. A légicsapásban legkevesebb 20 ember meghalt, és több mint harmincan súlyosan megsebesültek, köztük nők és gyermekek – tette hozzá.
A helyi jelentések szerint a légitámadást követően a hadsereg nehézfegyverekkel is lőtte a tömeget, ami tovább fokozta a pánikot, és megnehezítette a halottak elszállítását és a sebesültek ellátását.

A Karen Nemzeti Felszabadító Hadsereg (KNLA) által vezetett forradalmi szövetség a múlt hét végén már súlyos veszteségeket okozott a régióban állomásozó mianmari hadseregnek és most úgy tűnik, újabb támadásokat indítottak a hadsereg állásai ellen – olvasható a jelentésben.
„A lázadók behatoltak a városba, és átvették az ellenőrzést a város összes fontosabb kormányhivatala felett” – nyilatkozta a dpa német hírügynökségnek egy helyi szemtanú. Azt is hozzátette, hogy a hadsereg megtorlásul légicsapásokat hajtott végre a lázadók ellen.
Az országban a hadsereg 2021-ben vette át a hatalmat, az azóta eltelt években számos összecsapást jelentettek a katonai vezetéssel szemben álló fegyveres csoportok és a hadsereg között, a demokráciapárti politikusok pedig – több lázadószervezettel szövetségben – emigránskormányt alakítottak.

„A gyalogsági aknák használata nem pusztán szégyenletes, de a nemzetközi emberi jogokba is ütközhet” – mutatott rá közleményében Debora Comini, a szervezet Kelet-Ázsiáért és a csendes-óceáni térségért felelős irodavezetője.
Az áldozatok mintegy 35 százalékát az északi Szagaing térségből jelentették, mely a junta 2021-es hatalomátvételét követően a hadsereg irányítása ellen fellázadt milíciák egyik fellegvára lett.
Mianmar nem írta alá az ENSZ a gyalogsági aknák betiltásáról szóló egyezményét.
Az országban a hadsereg 2021. február 1-jén vette át a hatalmat, az azóta eltelt években számos összecsapást jelentettek a katonai vezetéssel szemben álló fegyveres csoportok és a hadsereg között, a demokráciapárti politikusok pedig – több lázadószervezettel szövetségben – árnyékkormányt alakítottak.

Több mint száz mianmari határőr menekült Bangladesbe az elmúlt napokban, miután a lázadók és a katonai junta közötti harcok egyre intenzívebbé váltak az országban – közölte hétfőn a bangladesi határőrség szóvivője.
A szóvivő elmondta, hogy a mianmari határőrség elmenekült tagjai közül tizenöten megsebesültek, őket kórházban ápolják. A sértetlen határőröket a közeli Bandarbanban helyezték el, mielőtt visszaküldik őket hazájukba – mondta Mizanur Rahmán, a világ legnagyobb menekülttáborának otthont adó Cox’s Bazar város menekültügyi biztosa.
Egy bangladesi kormánytisztviselő közölte, hogy a mianmari határ túloldaláról hétfőn lövedékek és aknagránátok csapódtak be Banglades területén, legkevesebb két ember halálát okozva.
A bangladesi igazságügyi miniszter a parlamentben elmondta: Sejk Haszina Vazed miniszterelnök utasította a hadsereget és a határőrséget, hogy türelemmel viszonyuljanak a határon túl kialakult helyzethez.
„Banglades figyelemmel kíséri a helyzetet, és ha szükséges, lépéseket fog tenni” – idézte a minisztert az UNB hírügynökség.
Mianmarban a hadsereg 2021 elején átvette a hatalmat, és őrizetbe vette az országot de facto miniszterelnökként irányító, Nobel-békedíjas Aung Szan Szú Kjít és Mianmar többi vezetőjét, arra hivatkozva, hogy a civil kormányzat nem vette figyelembe a választásokkal kapcsolatos panaszait. A voksolást toronymagasan Aung Szan Szú Kji pártja nyerte meg.
