Franciaország megkezdte csapatai kivonását Nigerből, az első katonai konvojok már a hétvégén elhagyták az ország északnyugati részén található bázisokat a főváros, Niamey irányába, egyúttal ellátmányt vittek az északnyugati támaszpontokra, ahol megcsappantak az ivóvíz-, az élelmiszer- és az üzemanyagkészletek – közölték hétfőn nigeri és francia biztonsági források.
Emmanuel Macron francia elnök szeptember végén jelentette be, hogy az év végéig kivonják Franciaország katonai kontingensét Nigerből, ahol júliusban a hadsereg átvette a hatalmat, megbuktatva a demokratikusan megválasztott Mohamed Bazoum elnököt.
Az északnyugat-nigeri támaszpontokon jelenleg mintegy 400 francia katonát állomásoztatnak, míg Niameyben hozzávetőleg ezret egy terrorellenes művelet keretében.
A tájékoztatás szerint az elsőbbséget élvező francia katonákat már Niameybe szállították, viszont egyelőre nem világos, hogy miként hagyhatják el Nigert, ugyanis a junta Benin és Nigéria felé lezáratta a szárazföldi határokat, illetve nem enged be sem polgári, sem katonai repülőgépeket az ország légterébe, csak különleges engedéllyel. Algéria, Burkina Faso, Líbia, Mali és Csád felé azonban már megnyitották a határokat. Csád fővárosában, N’Djamenában található a Száhel-övezetben állomásozó francia csapatok parancsnoksága.
A nigeri junta egyben arról biztosította Párizst, hogy a francia csapatkivonás „biztonságosan, és a nigeri hadsereg kíséretével fog” megvalósulni.

A Nyugat-afrikai Államok Gazdasági Közössége csütörtökön tanácskozott a helyzetről.
Omar Alieu Touray, az ECOWAS (Nyugat-afrikai Államok Gazdasági Közösségének) bizottsági elnöke katonai beavatkozást emlegetett a szervezet csütörtöki tanácskozása után:
“Utasítottuk a Vezérkar Védelmi Bizottságát, hogy azonnal aktiválja az ECOWAS készenléti haderőt minden elemével együtt, és rendelje el az ECOWAS készenléti erők bevetését a nigeri alkotmányos rend helyreállítása érdekében.”
Az országot jelenleg irányító katonai junta azzal fenyegetőzik, hogy egy intervenció esetén megölik az ország demokratikusan választott és erőszakkal eltávolított korábbi elnökét, Mohamed Bazoumot.

A Burkina Fasó-i és mali puccshoz hasonlóan a múlt heti nigeri államcsíny is növekvő franciaellenes hangulat közepette történt, egyes nigeriek a belügyekbe való beavatkozással vádolják az egykori gyarmattartót.
Abdourahamane Tiani tábornok, a nigeri elnöki gárda volt parancsnoka házi őrizetbe helyezte múlt szerdán Mohamed Bazoum demokratikusan megválasztott elnököt és saját magát kiáltotta ki államfőnek a 2020 óta a Közép- és Nyugat-Afrikában történt hetedik államcsínyben.
Niger térségbeli és nyugati partnerei – közöttük Franciaország – szankciókat vezettek be, hogy nyomást gyakoroljanak a juntára az alkotmányos rend helyreállítása érdekében.
Niger csütörtökön felfüggesztette a francia alapítású nemzetközi televízió és rádióadó, a France 24 és az RFI műsorainak sugárzását, amit a francia külügyminisztérium „nagyon határozottan” elítélt.
Csütörtökön ezrek tüntettek Niameyben, tiltakozva a junta vezetői elleni nyomásgyakorlás ellen. Az egyik tüntető kezében „Éljen Niger, Oroszország, Mali és Burkina. Vesszen Franciaország, az ECOWAS és az EU” feliratú tábla volt.
Franciaország 1000-1500 katonát állomásoztat Nigerben, hogy segítsék az országot az al-Kaida és az Iszlám Állam elleni harcban. A puccsok után Burkina Faso és Mali távozásra bírta a francia egységeket, amelyek most Nigerben tartózkodnak.

Több ezren tüntettek vasárnap Franciaország niamey-i nagykövetsége előtt, ahol a rendőrök könnygázt is bevetettek a tömeg feloszlatására.
Helyszíni beszámolók szerint az emberek a Mohamed Bazoum nigeri elnököt eltávolító puccsisták mellett tüntettek, a tömegből néhányan megpróbáltak bejutni a nagykövetség épületébe. A szemtanúk szerint leverték a nagykövetség feliratát a kapuról és a nigeri, valamint az orosz zászlót függesztették ki.
Többen a nigeri hadsereget és a puccsisták vezetőjét, Abdourahamane Tiani tábornokot és Oroszországot éltették, mások az Egyesült Államok diplomáciai képviselete felé indultak.
Franciaország vasárnap közölte, hogy azonnal lépni fog, ha állampolgárait támadás éri Nigerben. Az elnöki hivatal tájékoztatása szerint Emmanuel Macron francia államfő nem fogja eltűrni, hogy Franciaországot és érdekeltségeit bármilyen támadás érje. Párizs 1500 katonát állomásoztat az afrikai országban a terrorizmus elleni harc támogatására, és szombaton bejelentette, hogy a puccs miatt felfüggeszti a Nigernek nyújtott költségvetési támogatást.
Vasárnap Franciaország felszólította a nigeri hatóságokat, hogy szavatolják a nagykövetség biztonságát, és közölte, hogy minden kezdeményezést támogat a rend és a megválasztott elnök hatalmának helyreállítására. Katonák egy csoportja „a romló biztonsági helyzet és rossz kormányzásra” hivatkozva a héten puccsal eltávolította hatalmából Bazoumot.

A szerdai nap folyamán bejelentette a védelmi minisztérium, hogy a Boko Haram több száz harcosa rontott a hadsereg tagjaira Niger délkeleti részén, melynek során 16 katonát öltek meg és további kilencet megsebesítettek.
A védelmi minisztérium közleménye szerint viszont a hadseregnek sikerült legalább 50 iszlamista szélsőségessel végeznie – adta hírül az AFP hírügynökség. Az eset Diffa régióban történt, ahol sikerült a terroristáktól jelentős mértékben fegyvert lefoglalni.
A támadás során a Boko Haram harcosai Baroua városára rontottak rá, ahova az elmúlt időkben tért vissza több ezer helyi, akik egy korábbi dzsihadista mészárlás miatt menekültek el a településről.
A Boko Haram egyébként 2009-ben robbantotta ki az első iszlamista lázadást Északkelet-Nigériában, amely azóta átterjedt Csádra, Nigerre és Kamerunra is, olykor igencsak súlyos erőszakos cselekményekben formát öltve.
Niger a világ egyik legszegényebb országának számít a különböző statisztikák szerint, ráadásul két határukon is iszalmista erőszaknak vannak kitéve: nem elég a Boko Haram Nigéria felől, még Mali és Burkina Faso felől egyéb dzsihadista milíciák is aktívak.

Elengedtek 28 diákot a túszejtők, akiket még július 5-én hurcoltak el az északnyugat-nigériai Kaduna állam egyik bentlakásos iskolájából, de 81 gyereket továbbra is fogva tartanak – közölte vasárnap John Hayab tiszteletes, aki részt vett a fiatalok kiszabadítása érdekében folytatott tárgyalásokon.
A Kaduna déli részén található baptista iskola alapítójának tájékoztatása szerint egy másik 28 fős csoportot két nappal a túszejtést követően engedtek el az emberrablók.
Mohammed Jalige, Kaduna állam rendőrségi szóvivője szerint a gyerekeket Sabon Gaya településén engedték el szombat este. Israel Akanji, a nigériai baptista gyülekezet elnöke újságíróknak elmondta, hogy az egyház nem fizetett váltságdíjat, ugyanakkor arról nem szólt, hogy esetleg a szülők így tettek volna.
A nigériai hatóságok szerint váltságdíjat követelő banditák felelősek a történtekért. A mostani eset nyomán tizenhárom iskolát zárattak be határozatlan időre a térségben.
Nigériában rendszeresek a tömeges emberrablások, december óta ez már a tizedik eset.
Henrietta Fore, az ENSZ Gyermekalapjának (UNICEF) ügyvezető igazgatója szerint az említett időszakban legalább 950 diákot hurcoltak el nigériai iskolákból. Hozzátette, hogy csak az utóbbi 6 hétben ötszáz fiatalt raboltak el négy incidens során az afrikai ország központi és északnyugati részén.
Ehhez folyamodnak többek között a térségben aktív iszlamista terroristák is, akik lányokat és nőket kényszerítenek arra, hogy dzsihadistákkal házasodjanak össze vagy öngyilkos merényleteket kövessenek el, másokat pedig dolgoztatnak. Más esetekben bűnszervezetek rabolnak el gyerekeket azért, hogy váltságdíjat követeljenek értük.

Tűzharc tört ki Niger fővárosában, Niamey-ben, az elnöki hivataltól nem messze szerda hajnalban – írja a Reuters-re hivatkozva az Index.
A beszámolók szerint a tűzharc helyi idő szerint a hajnal háromkor kezdődött, és a fegyverek körülbelül fél órán át szóltak. A történtekről a hatóságok egyelőre nem árultak el részletesebb információkat.
Az eset azért is figyelemre méltó, mert Nigerben két nap múlva iktatják be az ország nemrég megválasztott új elnökét, Mohamed Bazoumot. Őt még februárban választották elnökké, ellenfele, Mahamane Ousmane viszont azt állítja, hogy csalás történt, és megtagadta a választás eredményének elfogadását.
A közép-afrikai országban az utóbbi években elszaporodtak az iszlamista milicisták által elkövetett merényletek.
