A Reuters beszámolója szerint az orosz elnök az orosz biztonsági tanács előtt arról is beszélt, hogy támogatja, hogy az Ukrajnából zsákmányolt fegyverszállítmányokat az oroszok által támogatott szakadár régióknak adják át.
Néhány nappal ezelőtt a brit hírszerzés számolt arról be, hogy Oroszország sorkatonákat telepített Ukrajnába, annak ellenére, hogy Vlagyimir Putyin korábban nyilvánosan kijelentette, nem tesz majd ilyet.
A szakértők arra is felhívták már a figyelmet, hogy a veszteségek növekedésével párhuzamosan az orosz elnök várhatóan kénytelen lesz az orosz fegyveres erők egészéből és más forrásokból pótolni a katonákat.
Beszámolók szerint Oroszország már harcba küldte azt a közel kétszázezer katonáját, akiket a háborút megelőzően az ukrán határ közelébe vezényeltek, így szükség lehet az önkéntesek támogatására is a harcokban. Különös tekintettel arra, hogy a híradások szerint jelentős veszteségeket szenvedtek már el az orosz csapatok az Ukrajna ellen vívott háborúban.
Egy amerikai tisztviselő becslése szerint az oroszok akár 6000 katonát is elveszíthettek a sebesültek száma pedig ennek háromszorosa is lehet.
