A tanácsadó egyúttal jelezte, hogy a rakéták egy részét az ellenség a megszállt Krím területéről lőhette ki. „Néhányat a rakéták közül, úgy tűnik, a Krím félszigetről lőttek ki, de azt még nem tudom megmondani, hogy mindegyik onnan indult-e ki” – tette hozzá.
A hírportál a fegyveres erők légvédelmi parancsnokságára hivatkozva azt közölte, az ellenséges rakéták közül legalább hármat sikerült semlegesíteni. kora este a Jediót Ahronót című újság honlapja, a ynet.
Néhány percen belül két hullámban érkeztek a lövedékek a
Gázai övezet melletti izraeli településekre, de a lakott helyek felé célzott
mintegy tíz rakétát megsemmisítette a levegőben a vaskupola nevű, rövid
távolságra eljutó rakéták elleni légvédelmi rendszer. A támadás során ezért sem
emberéletben, sem anyagiakban nem esett kár. Az övezettel északon szomszédos
Askelón város elöljárói elővigyázatosságból utasítást adtak a nyilvános
óvóhelyek megnyitására, és elhalasztották a vasárnap estére meghirdetett helyi
közösségi rendezvényeket.
A rakétákat nem sokkal azután indították útnak, hogy a Katar
küldöttségét vezető Muhamad al-Madi elhagyta Gázát, ahol pénzügyi segítséget
adott át az övezetet uraló iszlamista Hamász terrorszervezetnek.
Korábban az Iszlám Dzsihád bosszúval fenyegetőzött a reggeli
órákban megölt két harcosáért, akiket az izraeli hadsereg jelentése szerint
hajnalban lelőttek, miközben az övezet déli részén, Khan Junisznál bombákat
próbáltak telepíteni a határkerítéshez.
Az izraeli katonák az egyik támadó holttestét egy
