Hét San Antonió-i rendőrre lőtt rá egy elbarikádozott gyanúsított szerda este.
A gyanúsítottat lőtt sebekkel találták holtan – mondta el a város rendőrfőnöke. William McManus rendőrfőnök újságíróknak elmondta, hogy az incidens akkor kezdődött, amikor a rendőrök a gyanúsított családtagjának hívására reagáltak. A bejelentés egy folyamatban lévő öngyilkossági kísérletről szólt egy lakókomplexumban, a San Antonio északi részén lévő Stone Oak negyedben.
Az első kiérkező rendőrtisztet a lábán meglőtték – mondta McManus.
Egy másik rendőrt, aki utána, vagy vele nagyjából egy időben érkezett, szintén meglőtték – folytatta a rendőrfőnök.
Majd a harmadik és a negyedik rendőrt is találat érte, mindenkit kórházba szállították, vélhetően nem életveszélyes sérülésekkel – mondta McManus.
Később egy Facebookon közzétett videóban a rendőrfőnök azt mondta, hogy a meglőtt rendőrök száma valójában összesen hét volt.
A másik három ember állapotáról nem közölt semmit. A videón McManus rendőrfőnök azt mondta, nem világos, hogy a gyanúsított saját magát lőtte-e le, vagy a rendőrök lövései találták el.

Tűz keletkezett egy dallasi bevásárlóközpontban helyi idő szerint pénteken, amelyben több mint ötszáz állat pusztult el – közölte a texasi Dallas tűzoltósága.
A Plaza Latina bevásárlóközpont állatkereskedésében tartott 579 állat füstmérgezésben pusztult el – közölte Jason Evans, a tűzoltóság szóvivője. A tűz maga nem érte el az állatokat. Főként csirkék és hörcsögök pusztultak el, illetve két kutya és két macska is – tette hozzá a szóvivő.
Az oltás körülbelül két órán át tartott, a helyszínen 45 tűzoltó küzdött a lángokkal.
Annak ellenére, hogy a tűzoltók megkísérelték az állatok kimenekítését, a füst belélegzése után sajnálatos módon az üzletben levő összes állat elpusztult
– fejtette ki Evans, hozzátéve, hogy személyi sérülés nem történt.
Az egyemeletes üzletház szerkezete súlyosan megrongálódott, és a teteje is részben beomlott. A Plaza Latinában főként kis üzletek és éttermek találhatók, elsősorban latin-amerikai kínálattal. A tűz oka egyelőre ismeretlen, jelenleg vizsgálat folyik az ügyben – közölte a tűzoltóság.

A jármű vezetője egy Killeen-i plázába hajtott be szombaton este fél hatkor, ahol rengeteg ember tartózkodott − közölte Bryan Washko, a Texasi Közbiztonsági Hivatal szóvivője.
Öt sérültet szállítottak a helyi kórházakba, köztük egy hatéves gyermeket és egy 75 éves idős embert. Állapotukról még nem közöltek információkat. A bevásárlóközpontban levő szemtanúk is elmondták, hogy több lövés dördült el a helyszínen, valamint látták, hogy az emberek menekülnek a plázából.
Így történt
A rendőrségi üldözés délután öt óra körül kezdődött, közel 30 kilométerre Killeentől, amikor egy szabálytalanul közlekedő autósról kaptak értesítést, aki egy fekete kisteherautót vezetett − nyilatkozta Ofelia, Miramontez, a helyi rendőrkapitányság szóvivője.
Az üldözés közepette a sofőr letért az útról, és először a bevásárlóközpont parkolójába hajtott, majd áthaladt a JCPenny áruház ajtaján, és elütött több embert. A gyanúsítottat ott már gyalogosan követték a rendőrök. Végül csak több száz méter megtétele után állt meg, miután többször is rálőttek, hogy megállítsák a vásárlókat fenyegető ámokfutót.
A sofőr életét vesztette.
Az ügyben tartott sajtótájékoztatón a rendőrség még nem közölt információkkal a gyanúsított személyazonosságáról.

Jason Thornburgot szerdán ítélték el a Tarrant megyei esküdtszéken. A bíróságnak még döntenie kell arról, hogy a férfire halálbüntetést ró ki, vagy pedig élete hátralévő részét börtönben tölti a feltételes szabadlábra helyezés lehetősége nélkül – írja a New York Post.
Thornburg 2021 szeptemberében megölt három embert, feldarabolta a holttestüket, és az ágya alatt tárolta őket a texasi Eulessben egy motelben, később elégette a holttesteket egy kukában.
Thornburg bevallotta a nyomozóknak, hogy késztetést érzett „rituális áldozatok” bamutatására, és hogy megette az egyik áldozat szívét és az áldozatok testének más részeit.
Ügyvédei azzal érveltek, hogy a gyilkosságok elkövetésekor súlyos mentális betegségben szenvedett – írja a New York Post.

Új texasi rekord születhet, hatalmas jégeső esett hétvégén az államban, óriási, ananász méretű darabok hullottak az égből – számolt be róla a Sky News. Val és Amy Castor viharvadászok egy majdnem 18 centi hosszú darabra bukkantak a Vigo Park közelében. Val Castor szerint a jég körülbelül ananász méretű.
Ez a legnagyobb jégeső, amit valaha láttam úgy, hogy több mint 30 éve kergetem a vihart – mondta. Elmondása szerint több baseball labda méretű jégeső esett, miközben vezetett, berepedt a szélvédője. Az ananász méretűt egy árokban találta.
Ez egy új állami rekord lehet, megelőzve ezzel a 2021-ben Hondóban talált 16,25 centis darabot.
Vihar pusztított a Tengelici Parkerdőben nemrég, a szakemberek szerint több száz, de lehet, hogy ezer fa is kidőlt. Hatalmas jégtömb szakadt le egy vízesésről az oroszországi Kamcsatkán, egy ember meghalt, hárman megsérültek, köztük egy gyerek. Az eset a távol-keleti félsziget hegyvidékén, a Viljucsinszk-vízesésénél történt, amely népszerű turisztikai látványosság. A vízesés 39 kilométerre délnyugatra fekszik Petropavlovszk-Kamcsatszkij településtől.
A 2173 méter magas Viljucsinszkij vulkán lejtőin több gleccser van, amelyek patakokat táplálnak. A szóban forgó vízesés a vulkán északnyugati lejtőinél csordogáló patakokból alakult ki, a víz a vulkán lábánál negyvenméteres magasságból zuhan egy hómezőre.
Egy ember meghalt, hárman megsérültek, köztük egy gyerek, akinek állapota súlyos.
A sérülteket helikopterrel a körzeti kórházba szállították. A katasztrófavédelem helyszínre érkezett emberei átvizsgálták a leomlott jégtömb törmelékét, hogy megbizonyosodjanak arról, nincs több áldozata a jégomlásnak.

Ray Sappington Cooke megyei seriff vasárnap reggel a CNN-nek nyilatkozva osztotta meg, hogy 5 ember életét vesztette a texasi Cooke megyében, köztük gyermekek. Az éjszaka folyamán valószínűleg egy tornádó csapott le Texasra, miközben a heves viharok széles körben áramkimaradásokat okoztak.
Cooke megye térségéből két gyermek eltűnéséről jelentettek, akiket a legfrissebb jelentések szerint vasárnap reggelig még nem találtak meg. Az Egyesült Államok egyes területein vasárnap is hatalmas vihar várható: több mint 110 millió embert fenyeget nagy jégeső, károkat okozó szél és heves forgószél,főként a Mississippi középső részén, az Ohio és a Tennessee folyó völgyében.
Ahogy a viharok kelet felé haladnak, a Vihar-előrejelző Központ „heves tornádókra, extrém jégesőre és széles körű szélkárokat okozó folyosókra” figyelmeztette a lakosságot. A Cooke megyei seriff azt is elárulta, hogy mintegy 60-80 ember rekedt egy Shell benzinkúton, s egészen a vihar elvonulásáig ott is ragadtak. Közülük többen megsérültek, de egyikük sem életveszélyesen.

Houstonban és környékén szombaton is mintegy félmillió háztartás és vállalkozás maradt áram nélkül a súlyos viharok következtében. A halálos áldozatok száma eközben hétre emelkedett.
Texas sűrűn lakott délkeleti részének hatóságai további három halálos áldozatról számoltak be helyi idő szerint péntek este, köztük egy 85 éves asszonyról, akinek a háza villámcsapás nyomán gyulladt ki. Előzőleg Houston polgármestere már négy halálos áldozatról beszámolt.
A nagyvárosba csütörtök késő este érkezett a vihar, hurrikán erejű, óránkénti 160 kilométeres sebességet meghaladó széllel, aminek nyomán Houston belvárosában számos toronyház ablaka kitört és épületek homlokzata károsodott.
Összesen csaknem egy millió fogyasztónál szűnt meg az áramszolgáltatás, a teljes helyreállítás napokig tarthat még, mert nem csak villanyvezetékek szakadtak le, de magasfeszültségű elektromos elosztó tornyok is ledőltek.
A városi tisztségviselők a helyreállítási munkával párhuzamosan egy közelgő hőhullámra készülnek, és az áramellátás nélkül maradt lakosok számára „hűsölő központokat” nyitottak meg, azaz légkondicionált helyiségeket nyitottak.
A hőség miatt több száz mobil klímaberendezést juttattak el idősek, és mozgáskorlátozottak számára is.
A következő napokban a hőmérséklet napi csúcsértéke tartósan meghaladhatja a 35 fokot, miközben a nagy páratartalom miatt a hőérzet megközelítheti a 40 fokot Houston körzetében, és Texas teljes déli területein.

Texast hetek óta szélsőséges időjárás sújtja az Egyesült Államok délnyugati részén. A folyamatos esőzések miatt a folyók megáradtak, és a kiömlő víz több házat és utat is elárasztott. A szélsőséges időjárás következtében tucatnyi embert kellett evakuálni, és bár több sérültről tudnak, halálesetről nem érkezett bejelentés eddig.
Legkevesebb 178 embert menekítettek ki otthonából és járművéből a texasi Harris megyében a hétvégén pusztító esőzések és erős viharok következtében – írja a CNN. Lina Hidalgo, Harris megyei bíró halálesetről vagy súlyos sérülésről nem számolt be. Elmondta, hogy a háziállatok biztonságáról sem feledkeznek meg, így eddig több mint 100 háziállatot mentettek meg az áradás sújtotta vidéken.

Az elmúlt hetekben az állam egyes részeit tornádók tucatjai és softball méretű jégeső rázta meg, Kelet-Texasban pedig hónapokig hullott az eső, amitől a folyók vízszintje olyan szintre emelkedett, amilyenre a Harvey hurrikán 2017-es pusztítása óta nem volt példa.
