A szél hatására több kisebb tűz egyesült egy naggyá az Egyesült Államok nyugati részén elterülő államban, és emiatt elővigyázatosságból két kisváros − Louisville és Superior − csaknem minden lakóját evakuálni kellett − jelentette be Boulder megye seriffjének hivatala.

Görögországban újabb két települést kellett kiüríteni a főváros, Athén környékén, ahol újból fellángoltak a múlt héten jelentős pusztítást okozó erdőtüzek.
A hatóságok elővigyázatosságból rendelték el két falu, Vilia és Profitisz lakóinak evakuálását. A tüzek az erős széltől kaptak új erőre az Athéntól 50 kilométerre lévő települések környékén, sérültek egyelőre nincsenek.
A tüzek megfékezésére 85 tűzoltót, 13 helikoptert és nyolc repülőgépet vezényeltek ki.

A török hatóságok őrizetbe vettek egy embert, akit erdőtüzet okozó gyújtogatással gyanúsítanak – jelentette be Recep Tayyip Erdoğan elnök szombaton Marmaris városában tartott sajtótájékoztatóján.
A törökországi erdőtüzek halálos áldozatainak száma közben hatra emelkedett. Erdogan szerint az őrizetbe vett illetőt a Milas városánál keletkezett erdőtűzzel hozzák összefüggésbe. „A kötelességünk megtalálni azokat, akik felgyújtják erdeinket” – mondta az államfő.
Az erdőtüzek szerdán kezdődtek az Antalya üdülővárostól 75 kilométerre keletre fekvő Manavgat városánál. Csütörtökre már tucatnyi térségbeli tartományban, így az üdülőövezetben fekvő tengerparti Aydinban és Muglában is lángra kapott a növényzet, turisták sokaságát kellett kimenekíteni a szállodákból, több ezer embernek kellett elhagynia otthonát. A lángoló növényzet miatt haszon- és vadállatok egyaránt elpusztultak, jókora termőterületek perzselődtek fel. Egyes településeken megszűnt az áramszolgáltatás.
Szombaton újabb tűzgóc keletkezett a népszerű égei-tengeri Bodrum üdülőváros környéki hegyvidéken, a tűzoltók megpróbálják megfékezni a lángokat, még mielőtt elérnék a lakott területeket. Műholdfelvételeken látszik, hogy az Antalya és Mersin tartományokban égő növényzet füstje elérte a tőlük 150 kilométerre fekvő Ciprust.

Január 7-én este nem sokkal nyolc óra után tűz ütött ki a Csíkszeredához tartozó romatelepen, a Somlyó utcában. Annak ellenére, hogy a tűzoltóság szinte azonnal a helyszínre érkezett, órákon keresztül harcolni kellett a lángokkal, amelyek nagyon gyorsan terjedtek.
A hírről beszámoló Transindex szerint akik ott voltak, apokaliptikus képeknek lehettek tanúi: a lángoló tetők között az ólakból kiengedett állatok, lovak, disznók futottak szanaszéjjel, az emberek pedig rémülve próbálták kimenteni házaikból, gazdaságukból azt, ami menthető volt. Sok gyerek hiányos öltözetben, sírva várta, hogy valaki rá is figyeljen. A csecsemős anyák pokrócba burkolták gyerekeiket, és biztonságos távolságból figyelték, hogyan válik eddigi lakásuk a lángok martalékává.
A több ezer literes tartállyal rendelkező tűzoltóautókból elfogyott a víz, és tűzcsap hiányában nem volt ahonnan újratölteni, így az oltás után funkciójukat vesztett járművek hátratolattak a szűk utcában, hogy vízutánpótlásért induljanak.
Eközben a pálfalvi önkéntes tűzoltók egy bevetési járművel, szivattyúk segítségével a közeli Somlyó-patakból kezdték pumpálni a vizet, ahol időközben egy kisebb gátat alakítottak ki a cigánytelepi férfiak, akik lemezekkel, káddal és minden kezük ügyébe kerülő nagyobb holmival duzzasztották fel a patakot, hogy a vízutánpótlás biztosított legyen – derül ki a Főtér cikkéből.
Korodi Attila, Csíkszereda polgármestere, valamint Borboly Csaba, Hargita Megye Tanácsának elnöke is a helyszínre siettek, és részt vettek a mentőakció megszervezésében.
A rászorulóknak meleg teát, pokrócokat osztottak, majd autóbuszokkal a családokat az Erőss Zsolt Arénába és a Márton Áron Főgimnázium mögött található sportcsarnokba szállították. Az este nyolc órakor kiütött tüzet éjfél előtt egy órával sikerült végleg eloltani. A Hargita megyei tűzoltóság tájékoztatása szerint körülbelül húsz faházat érintett a tűz, a lángok mintegy ezer négyzetméteren pusztítottak.
A mintegy 200 személy számára, akiket az arénába szállítottak az est folyamán már a tegnap gyűjtést rendeztek, hogy matracokat, hálózsákokat biztosíthassanak számukra. A gyűjtés folytatódik, és önkéntesek jelentkezését is várja Csíkszereda önkormányzata, annak érdekében, hogy az étkeztetést (reggeli, ebéd, vacsora) tudják megszervezni, azaz a városháza által biztosított ételt tudják kiosztani.
Egyelőre még nem ért véget a hatósági vizsgálat a csíksomlyói tűzvész ügyében, így hivatalosan nem tudni, hogy mi okozta a cigánytelep házainak lángokba borulását. Kalifornia déli vidékein Gavin Newsom kormányzó rendelete nyomán kilencvenezer embernek kellett elhagynia az otthonát a tűzvészek miatt hétfőn.
A kormányzó rendelete a Los Angelestől délre fekvő településeken élőket érintette. A bozóttüzek vasárnap este lángoltak fel ismét, a tüzet a szárazság és az erős széllökések táplálják.
A kaliforniai erdészeti és tűzvédelmi hatóság közlése szerint óránként 120-130 kilométeres szél „segíti” a tűz terjedését, a tűzoltóknak éppen a szél miatt le kellett állniuk a helikopterről történő oltással. Hétfőn két helyen is újabb bozóttüzek keletkeztek, és csaknem háromezer hektárnyi terület vált a tűz martalékává. Los Angeles környékén a kanyonokban és délebbre, Santa Ana mellett képtelenek megfékezni a tüzet, amely egyelőre a lakott területeket nem érte el. A Los Angeles melletti Irvine városában és környékén azonban elővigyázatosságból több mint kilencvenezer embert költöztettek el a tűzvész miatt. A város fölött az égboltot sötétre színezi a füst.
Lángokban áll Yorba Linda környéke is, az erős széllökések miatt a helyi hatóságok attól tartanak, hogy ismét bozóttüzek veszik körül az északabbra fekvő San Franciscót is. San Franciscótól északra egyébként hurrikán erejű széllökésekről számoltak be a meteorológusok.
A térségben a tűz gyors terjedése miatt országutakat kellett lezárni. Az áramszolgáltatás kényszerű szünetelése miatt több mint egymilliónyian maradtak áram nélkül.
