A Hawaii-szigetekhez tartozó Mauin múlt kedden csaptak fel a lángok, amelyek a száraz bozótban és erős szélben rendkívül gyorsan elérték a lakott területet. A történelmi Lahaina város, az egykori Hawaii Királyság fővárosa, szinte teljesen elpusztult.
A kormányzó korábban elmondta, hogy több mint kétezer épület rongálódott meg vagy égett le, és a tűzvész mintegy 6 milliárd dollár (mintegy 21 ezer milliárd forint) kárt okozott.

Az amerikai parti őrség a tűz okozta környezeti károkat igyekszik enyhíteni a tengeren, illetve a vízi mentésben vesz részt.
Joe Biden amerikai elnök kedden bejelentette, hogy a first ladyvel együtt – amint ez lehetővé válik – Hawaiira látogat, hogy felmérjék a tűz okozta károkat. Ugyanakkor hozzátette: nem szeretné, ha jelenléte megzavarná a helyreállítási erőfeszítéseket.
Biden közölte: biztosította Josh Green kormányfőt, hogy Hawaii „mindent megkap a szövetségi kormánytól, amire szüksége van”.

Folyamatosan emelkedik a Hawaii-szigeteken kedd óta pusztító erdő- és bozóttüzek halálos áldozatainak száma. Több száz ember eltűnt, sokan maradtak fedél nélkül. A sziget kormányzója közölte, amit lehet, minden segítséget megadnak a túlélőknek. Ez minden idők legnagyobb természeti katasztrófája, amely Hawaii-t érintette.
Már nyolcvankilenc ember halálát követelte a Hawaii-szigetcsoporton tomboló tűzvész. A legsúlyosabb helyzet Mauin alakult ki. A hatóságok szerint a Lahainánál tomboló lángok 80 százalékát már ellenőrzik a tűzoltók, míg Pulehunál 70 százalékban sikerült megfékezni a lángokat.
A BBC információi szerint több száz embert továbbra sem találnak, miközben szintén százak óvóhelyeken várakoznak Maui szigetén.
Nem tudunk mást tenni, mint várni, és segíteni a túlélőknek. Most arra összpontosítunk, hogy egyesítsük a családokat, és minél előbb lakáshoz, egészségügyi ellátáshoz juttassuk őket. Az újjáépítés szervezésében is segíteni fogunk – nyilatkozta Josh Green hawaii kormányzó. Hozzátette, a tűzvész a szigetvilág történetének legsúlyosabb természeti katasztrófája.

A hatalmas tűz a Dora hurrikán széllökései és a száraz időjárási körülmények miatt alakulhatott ki. Az erős szél a tűzoltók munkáját is akadályozza, emellett ellehetetlenítette, hogy a lángokat helikopterek segítségével fékezzék meg. Helyenként óránkénti 100 kilométeres sebességű széllökéseket is mértek.
Pénteken Maui szigetén visszatérhettek a lakosok a tűzben elpusztult történelmi városba, Lahainába. Josh Green kormányzó csütörtökön a helyszínen úgy nyilatkozott, hogy a népszerű településből alig maradt több parázsló romoknál.

Újabb evakuálások vannak folyamatban a Hawaii szigetek egyikén, Mauin, mivel a lángok egyre közelebb kúsznak Kaanapali városához.
Eddig 80 ember halálát erősítették meg az amerikai állam történetének leghalálosabb természeti katasztrófájában. Több százan eltűntek, így a halálos áldozatok száma még emelkedhet Hawaiin – írja a BBC.
Közben újabb kitelepítések kezdődtek Mauin. A parancsot csak néhány órával azután léptették életbe, hogy a közeli Lahaina lakói rövid időre visszatérhettek, hogy számba vegyék a tűzvész sújtotta történelmi város kárait.
Hawaii főügyésze bejelentette, hogy „átfogó vizsgálatot” indítanak arról, hogyan reagáltak a hatóságok az erdőtüzekre, miközben egyre több a kérdőjel, hogy a hatóságok elég gyorsan figyelmeztették-e a lakosokat.
Az állami hatóságok pénteken nyitották meg újra Lahainát a lakhelyüket igazoló személyek előtt, először azóta, hogy a hét elején a lángok gyorsan végigsöpörtek a tengerparti város nagy részét elpusztítva, amely gazdag történelemmel rendelkezik és évente mintegy kétmillió turistát vonz.
De néhány órával később az utat újra lezárták. Még órákkal később is kilométeres sor állt az úton. A lahainai lakosok azt mondták, otthonaikat kifosztották, de a rendőrség nem erősítette meg a fosztogatásról terjengő híreket.
Korábban Josh Green helyi kormányzó arra figyelmeztetett, hogy a lakosokat „olyan pusztítás képe fogadja majd, amilyet soha életükben nem láttak még”.
Nyugat-Maui, ahol Lahaina és Kaanapali található, továbbra is áram és vezetékes víz nélkül van. A mentőcsapatok még mindig a térségben vannak, hogy az erdőtűz áldozatait felkutassák.
A vízben is zajlik a keresés. A parti őrség közölte, hogy eddig 17 embert húztak ki élve a tengerből a város kikötője közelében. A jelentések szerint mindegyikük állapota stabil.
A hatóságok arra figyelmeztettek, hogy évekbe telik majd, mire a Maui szigetén pusztító erdőtüzek által okozott károkat helyreállítják. Csak Lahainában több mint 1000 épület semmisült meg.
Folyamatosan érkeznek az adományok
A szigeten sok gazdag ember él, köztük az Amazon alapítója, Jeff Bezos. Ő és élettársa, Lauren Sanchez 100 millió dollárt ajánlottak fel a tűz áldozatainak megsegítésére.
A Hawaii Maui szigetén és a Big Islanden kedd este kezdődtek az erdőtüzek. Az okot még nem tudni, de mikor fellobbantak, a hurrikánszerű szél és a száraz időjárás segítette a lángok gyors terjedését.

2023 júliusa 1,3C-1,7C-kal lesz melegebb a fosszilis tüzelőanyagok széles körű használata előtt mért júliusi átlaghőmérsékletnél a Copernicus klímaváltozási szolgálat szerint.
Az elmúlt 120 000 év legmelegebb hónapja volt szakértők szerint az idei július. Ezen belül is július 6. volt a valaha mért legforróbb nap. De még ennél is rémisztőbb adat, hogy a valaha feljegyzett 23 legmelegebb nap mind ebben a hónapban volt.
„A szélsőséges időjárás, amely júliusban sok millió embert érintett, sajnos az éghajlatváltozás kemény valósága és a jövő előszele” – mondta a Meteorológiai Világszervezet főtitkára, Prof. Petteri Taalas.

Július utolsó hetében több száz erdőtűz égett Dél-Európában és Észak-Afrikában, összesen 10 országban pusztítottak a lángok ezekben a napokban, amiket a közelmúltban lezajlott hőhullám szított. Az Európai Unióban az idén sokkal több a tűzeset és nagyobb a leégett terület, mint egy átlagos erdőtűz-szezonban.
Algériában a fővárostól, Algírtól keletre pusztító erdőtüzekben több tucat ember halt meg, és több mint 1500 háztartást kellett evakuálni; a tüzek átterjedtek a szomszédos Tunéziára is.
Horvátországban a tűzoltók hétvégén még mindig felügyelték a Dubrovnik közelében keletkezett és mintegy 1000 hektáron égő tüzet.
Franciaországban Korzika szigete állt lángokban.
Görögországban több száz tűzoltó igyekezett megfékezni a szárazföldön, valamint Korfu, Evia és Rodosz szigetén tomboló tüzeket, amelyek mintegy 100 000 hektárnyi területet pusztítottak el, és több mint 20 000 ember evakuálásához vezettek. Legalább négy ember meghalt, köztük két pilóta, akiknek repülőgépe lezuhant a tűzoltás közben Evia szigetén. A tűzvész robbanásokat okozott Görögország nyugati részén, miután elért egy lőszerraktárat. A hét végére a hatóságok közölték, hogy a tüzeket nagyrészt ellenőrzés alatt tartják.
Olaszországban, melyet a hőhullám a leginkább sújtott a közelmúltban, a tűzoltók vasárnap óta több mint 1300 esethez vonultak ki. A szicíliai hatóságok közölték, hogy a héten három ember halt meg a szigeten „pusztító” tűzesetekben.
Portugáliában szerdán sikerült megfékezni a tüzet a Lisszabonhoz közeli Cascais tengerparti település egyik nemzeti parkjában.
Spanyolországban a tűzoltók szerdára virradó éjjel megfékeztek egy erdőtüzet Gran Canaria szigetén, ahol mintegy 1000 hektáron égett a tűz. A régió polgárőrsége evakuált néhány lakost. A múlt héten a Kanári-szigetekhez tartozó La Palmán egy másik erdőtűz legalább 11 000 hektárnyi területet pusztított el.
Szíriában az ország nyugati részén, Latakia tartományban tomboltak tüzek.
Törökországban több tucat repülőgép és több száz tűzoltó küzdött a Földközi-tenger partján fekvő Antalya térségében terjedő bozóttüzek ellen.
Az Európai Unió több mint 490 tűzoltót és kilenc tűzoltó repülőgépet küldött Görögországba és Tunéziába. Bulgária, Ciprus, Románia, Szlovákia és Szerbia is beszálltak a tűzoltásba Dél-Európában.

A déli Santa Maria városában található Kiss éjszakai klubban 2013-ban 242 ember vesztette életét a tűzvészben.
A tűz akkor ütött ki, amikor a klubban játszó zenekar fáklyákat gyújtott meg, amelyek lángra gyújtották a mennyezetet.
A zenekar két tagját és a klub két tulajdonosát bűnösnek találták gyilkosságban és gyilkossági kísérletben, és 18 és 22 év közötti börtönbüntetést kaptak 2021-ben.
Szerdán azonban Rio Grande do Sul államban egy három bíróból álló bíróság úgy döntött, hogy hatályon kívül helyezi az ítéletüket, mondván, hogy szabálytalanságok történtek az esküdtszék kiválasztásakor. Az ügyészek közölték, hogy fellebbezést terveznek a döntés ellen.
A négy elítélt szabadon bocsátásáról már kiadták a végzést, és a négy férfi közül kettő helyi idő szerint szerda este elhagyta a börtönt – írja a BBC.
A tűzvész Brazília egyik leghalálosabbja volt, és a túlélők beszámolói sokkolták az országot, amely végül a hasonló helyszínek biztonsági előírásainak felülvizsgálatához vezetett. A nyomozók megállapították, hogy a zenekar által a színpadon használt fáklyák meggyújtották a mennyezet szigetelőanyagát. Az áldozatok többsége a mérgező füsttől halt meg.
A túlzsúfolt klubban akkoriban több száz fiatal tartózkodott. A tűzjelzők hiányosságai és az a tény, hogy csak két kijárat volt, azt eredményezte, hogy a 242 halálos áldozat mellett 600-an megsérültek.

Repülőgépekkel és a katonaság bevonásával oltják a tüzet a horvát tengerparton, ahol a tomboló erdőtűz már több mint húsz házat emésztett fel – jelentette a Vecernji List című helyi lap csütörtökön.
Több mint 350 tűzoltó, valamint 75 rendőr és számos katona vesz részt az oltási akcióban, illetve a helyi lakosság is oltja a tüzet. A hivatalos jelentések szerint körülbelül 3300 hektáros területet érint a tűz.
A Vecernji List jelentése szerint több nagy olajfaültetvény is porig égett, számos jármű égett porrá, és a lakóházak egy része is használhatatlanná vált.
A tüzet az okozta, hogy Sibenik és Zára (Zadar) közelében a száraz aljnövényzet a hét elején lángra kapott, majd az erős szél miatt a lángok gyorsan tovább terjedtek.
A helyiek evakuálása folyamatos, szárazföldön és vízen is menekítik az embereket.
A Sibenik környéki utak egy részét teljesen, más részét részlegesen, illetve rövid időre lezárták.
Csütörtök hajnalban a lángok Sibenik és Vodice között csaptak fel, a tűz átterjedt a Prokljanski-tó partján fekvő Raslinára is, illetve a Vodice melletti Zatonra.

Tűzvész pusztít Görögország középső részén, több falut ki kellett üríteni – közölték a helyi hatóságok. A helyi tűzoltóság egyik szóvivője kedd reggel az ERT állami műsorszolgáltatónak azt mondta, hogy éjszaka némileg megfékezték a lángokat, de a veszély nem múlt el.
Itea kikötőváros közelében több faluból evakuálni kellett a lakosokat a tűzvész miatt hétfőn, a tőle néhány kilométerre fekvő Ámfissában pedig olajfaültetvényeket pusztítottak el a lángok.

A szél hatására több kisebb tűz egyesült egy naggyá az Egyesült Államok nyugati részén elterülő államban, és emiatt elővigyázatosságból két kisváros − Louisville és Superior − csaknem minden lakóját evakuálni kellett − jelentette be Boulder megye seriffjének hivatala.
Körülbelül 370 lakóház már leégett, és további 210 veszélyben van. De több ipari és kereskedelmi épületet is fenyeget a tűz, néhány szálloda és áruház már szintén leégett. Eddig hat sérült áldozat van, és 650 hektárnyi növényzet pusztult el a megyében − tette hozzá Joe Pelle megyei seriff.

Tűz ütött ki az andorrai Nemzeti Stadionban, ahol az angol válogatott szombaton lép pályára világbajnoki selejtezőn.
Gareth Southgate válogatottja már pénteken a helyszínen edzett, még mielőtt a tűz fellobbant volna.
A tűz a kispadoktól nem messze keletkezett, ott ahol a tudósítóknak kialakított helyek vannak a különböző bejelentkezésekhez. Egyes információk szerint a videobíró monitora gyulladt ki, onnan terjedtek tovább a lángok.
A tűz során hatalmas fekete füst gomolygott a stadion és a környező házak körül. A tűzoltók hamar a helyszínre értek, el is oltották a lángokat, de a fémszerkezet így is megrongálódott.
A mieinkkel egy csoportban szereplő csapatok szombat este lépnek pályára, a magyarok Albániát fogadják majd szombaton.

Görögországban újabb két települést kellett kiüríteni a főváros, Athén környékén, ahol újból fellángoltak a múlt héten jelentős pusztítást okozó erdőtüzek.
A hatóságok elővigyázatosságból rendelték el két falu, Vilia és Profitisz lakóinak evakuálását. A tüzek az erős széltől kaptak új erőre az Athéntól 50 kilométerre lévő települések környékén, sérültek egyelőre nincsenek.
A tüzek megfékezésére 85 tűzoltót, 13 helikoptert és nyolc repülőgépet vezényeltek ki.
