A Nemzetközi Vöröskereszt bejelentette, hogy hackerek feltörték egy adatbázisukat, aminek következtében mintegy 515 ezer ember adatai szivároghattak ki.
A genfi székhelyű szervezet azt írta: olyan emberek adataihoz férhettek hozzá a behatolók, akik 60 különböző, háború vagy katasztrófa által sújtott övezetben élnek, ebből adódóan pedig veszélyeztetett személyeknek minősülnek.
Közlésük szerint a hackerek egy olyan genfi céget támadtak meg, amely külsős partnerként segíti őket az adatok tárolásában. Egyelőre nem tudják, hogy kik állhatnak a támadást mögött, de a Vöröskereszt szerint alaposan megtervezett akcióról van szó.
A nemzetközi szervezet azt kérte azoktól, akik a támadás mögött állnak, hogy ne szivárogtassák ki vagy adják el ezeket az információkat, mivel ezzel komoly veszélynek tehetik ki ezeket a személyeket. Állításuk szerint egyelőre nem látják jelét annak, hogy bárki így tett volna, viszont ennek ellenére óvatosságból felfüggesztették azt a projektjüket, amelynek részeként szétszakított családok tagjait hozták össze ismét egymással.
