A helyi hatóságok vasárnapi jelentése szerint ebben a hónapban legalább 27 ember halt meg a Fülöp-szigeteki viharokban, emellett tizenegy sérültről érkezett jelentés, hárman pedig eltűntek.
Karácsony óta heves felhőszakadások és áradások sújtják az ország déli és középső részeit, amelyek következtében százezrek kényszerültek otthonaik elhagyására, miközben a szakértők felhívták a figyelmet, hogy további esőzések várhatók.

Dél-Tirolban az erős havazás okozott gondot, ezrek maradtak áram nélkül. Rómában pedig az erős szél fákat döntött ki, ezért a fővárosban több utat le kellett zárni.
Róma monszunszerű esőzésre ébredt kedden. Roberto Gualtieri főpolgármester már hétfőn elrendelte a parkok és temetők lezárását. Lezárták a főváros tengerpartjaként ismert Ostia strandterületeit is az erős hullámzás miatt.
A közép-olaszországi Lazio tartományban több város és település iskolája elsősorban a tengerparti térségekben kedden nem nyitott ki. Nápolyban is lezárták a tengerparti sétányokat, és nem nyitottak ki az iskolák, és zárva maradtak Szicília több városában is. Campania tartományban a polgári védelem ötezer homokzsákkal készült arra az esetre, ha megáradnának a patakok, a térségben ugyanis gyakoriak az áradások.
Heves eső, viharok, széllökések és áradások miatt kilenc tartományban rendeltek el narancssárga riasztást, amely közepes készültséget jelent. Havazást jelentettek az Alpokból már ötszáz méteres magasság felett.
Abruzzo tartományban és Szardínia szigetén vörös riasztás lépett életbe: az elsőben rendkívüli havazásra, a szigeten akár 8 méter magas hullámokra is számítanak.
Az országos meteorológiai intézet Nero császár második feleségéről Poppeának nevezte el az időjárási jelenséget, amelyet az utóbbi évtizedek egyik legerősebb ciklonjaként jellemeztek. Ez az előrejelzések szerint felhőszakadást és intenzív havazást hoz az Alpokban, hurrikánszerű szelet a tengeren.
Poppea északkeleti irányból vonul végig a félszigeten, Friuli Venezia Giulia tartománytól egészen Szicíliáig. A sirokkónak nevezett erős szél a tenger vizét a velencei laguna irányába tereli, ezért a városban a következő órákban a tengerszint tetőzésére számítanak. Szombaton folytatódik a keresés három eltűnt személy után a közép-olaszországi Ancona adriai tartományban pusztító heves viharok után.
Egy nyolcéves kisfiút, egy 56 éves nőt és egy férfit keresnek Arcevia településről. Tíz halott, 50 sérült és 150 evakuált lakos a régiót sújtó viharok előzetes mérlege – közölték a hatóságok.
A más olasz régiókból is érkezett tűzoltók, a polgári védelem és más mentőegységek szombatra virradó éjszaka is folyamatosan dolgoztak, hogy segítséget nyújtsanak a kimenekített lakosoknak és a sérülteknek, és akiknek az otthonát a víz és az iszap lakhatatlanná tette.

A több hétig tartó nyirkos időjárás után lecsapott eső csak rontja a körülményeket Új-Zéland így is átázott táján. A szakértők az évszakhoz képest nem szokványos csapadékos időjárást egy keskeny vízgőzáramnak, vagy egy „légköri folyónak” tulajdonítják, amely az ország felett terül el – írja a Reuters.
A Metservice meteorológiai szolgálat előrejelzése szerint a Déli-sziget északi részén jóval több mint 300 milliméter eső esett az elmúlt 24 órában. A Déli-sziget nyugati részén és az Északi-sziget északi részén heves esőzésekre figyelmeztetnek.
A Metservice adatai szerint a Déli-szigeten fekvő Nelson városában kedd dél óta 106 milliméternyi eső esett, ami jóval meghaladja az egész augusztusban mért 80 milliméteres átlagos csapadékmennyiséget.
Új-Zéland északi szigetén, az ország legnagyobb városában, Aucklandben heves esőzés és viharos szél miatt van érvényben figyelmeztetés, egyelőre azonban minimális fennakadásokról számoltak be.

Tízezrek kényszerültek elhagyni otthonukat az Ausztrália keleti partján található Sydney-ben, miután a heves esőzések elárasztottak több külvárosi területet.

Áradásveszélyre tekintettel riadót adtak ki Anglia legészaknyugatibb megyéjére, Cumbriára, amelyet a heves esőzések táplálnak.
Az esőzés elsősorban Anglia északnyugati, Skócia déli részét és Walest érinti, Skóciában például két gyaloghidat is elmosott az áradás.
A heves esőzések miatt drasztikusan megemelkedett az Annan-folyó vízszintje, amely miatt a Dumfries és Galloway településein található hidak teljesen tönkrementek.
A skóciai vasúttársaság közleménye szerint ez a vasúti közlekedést is jelentősen megzavarta, Dumfries és Carlisle közötti vonalakat határozatlan időre lezárták.
Dumfries és Galloway rendőrsége egyöntetűen megerősítette, hogy a mostani áradások a legsúlyosabbak, amelyet az elmúlt évek során tapasztaltak.
Az időjárási körülmények miatt számos iskolát is be kellett zárni Skócia déli és nyugati részén, valamint számos járatot töröltek a repülőtársaságok is.
