Sorra érik a természeti katasztrófák az ausztrál
kontinenst, ezúttal Canberrát tarolta le hatalmas jégeső.
Heves viharok és jégeső volt hétfőn Ausztrália sok részén,
köztük olyan területeken is, ahol bozóttűz pusztított, de az ország szárazság
sújtotta keleti és délkeleti térségeiben sok helyen továbbra is tombol a
tűzvész, mert oda nem jutott az esőből.
Viharok és jégeső volt Új-Dél-Wales, Queensland és Victoria
állam több részén is (ez az a három állam, amelyet leginkább sújtott a bozóttűz
az elmúlt hónapokban), sőt a hirtelen lezúdult eső villámáradásokat is okozott
bizonyos helyeken. Az ország fővárosában, Canberrában is volt hétfőn délután
jégeső mintegy 15 percen át.
Hosszú hónapok szárazsága után az esők már a múlt héten
elkezdődtek, ami nagy segítséget jelent a kimerült tűzoltóknak.
Queenslandben történt a legtöbb villámáradás a hét végén,
miattuk több közutat le kellett zárni, és lakosokat kimenekíteni házukból.
Melbourne-ben vasárnap este golflabdanagyságú jégdarabok
hullottak, tönkretéve gépkocsikat és megrongálva háztetőket. Több mint
1500-szor hívták a katasztrófaelhárítókat az emberek.Új-Dél-Walesben homokvihar
is volt vasárnap, a szél erőssége Dubbo városban elérte a 100 kilométert
óránként az ausztrál meteorológiai intézet közlése szerint.
A szórványos csapadék ellenére még mindig 68 helyen ég a tűz
Új-Dél-Walesben és 27 helyen Victoriában.
