Azerbajdzsán elismerte, hogy orosz helikoptert lőtt le Örményország légterében, amiért az azeri külügyminisztérium bocsánatot kért – közölték hétfőn orosz hírügynökségek.
 
Baku igyekezett arról biztosítani Moszkvát, hogy az incidens nem irányult az orosz fél ellen, és kártérítést ajánlott fel.

Minkét fél beszámolt a másik oldal tüzérségi támadásairól a délben életbe lépő tűzszünet után is.
 
Helyi idő szerint szombaton délben lépett életbe a Hegyi-Karabahra vonatkozó tűzszüneti megállapodás Örményország és Azerbajdzsán között, melyben Oroszország közvetítésével állapodtak meg maratoni tárgyalások után. Mégis mindkét fél percekkel ezután is számolt be arról, hogy a másik lakott területeket lő.
 
A humanitárius tűzszünet célja a foglyok és az elesett katonák holttestének kicserélése a Vöröskereszt Nemzetközi Bizottságának (ICRC) közreműködésével. Jereván és Baku megállapodott arról is, hogy érdemi tárgyalásokat kezd az Európai Biztonsági és Együttműködési Szervezet (EBESZ) minszki csoportjának közvetítésével a konfliktus békés rendezéséről.

Törökország beavatkozhatott az azeri–örmény konfliktusba. A török államfői hivatal kommunikációs igazgatója tagadta a hírt. 
 
 
Egy török F-16-os vadászgép Azerbajdzsán légteréből lelőtt egy örmény SzU-25-ös harci gépet – közölte kedden az örmény védelmi minisztérium. A tárca szerint a pilóta meghalt.
 
A hír azután érkezett, hogy orosz források szerint kedden napközben megszólaltak a légószirénák a hegyi-karabahi fővárosban, Sztepanakertben, és evakuálni kezdték a lakosságot Jerevánba. Közben a török külügyminiszter felszólította az örményeket, hogy hagyják el a „megszállt területet”, jelezte, hogy készek beavatkozni az azeri oldalon. A Kollektív Biztonsági Szerződés Szervezete (a „keleti NATO”) örmény képviselője pedig bejelentette, hogy Azerbajdzsán veszélyezteti Örményország területi integritását (tehát nem csak Karabahot), és „megfelelő hadi-politikai válaszlépéseket” helyezett kilátásba.
 
Törökország nem sokkal később a helyi sajtó közlése szerint tagadta az F-16-os lelövésének hírét. Fahrettin Altun, a török államfői hivatal kommunikációs igazgatója közölte, hogy az örmény állítás „teljességgel igaztalan”. Hozzátette:
 
Örményországnak ahelyett, hogy olcsó propagandatrükkökhöz fordul, inkább ki kellene vonulnia az általa megszállt területekről”.
 
Az azeri államfő kedden kizárta a tárgyalások lehetőségét Jerevánnal a vitatott hovatartozású Hegyi-Karabahról. Ilham Aliyev elfogadhatatlannak tartja az örmény vezetés követeléseit.
 
Azt is leszögezte az azeri vezető az orosz Rosszija 1 televízió élőben közvetített műsorában, hogy „Törökország nem része a konfliktusnak, nem vesz részt benne, és erre nincs is semmi szükség”. Aliyev szerint Törökország kizárólag stabilizáló szerepet játszik a térségben.
 
Nikol Pasinján örmény kormányfő ezzel egy időben arról beszélt, hogy az örmény nép léte forog kockán. Ő szintén a Rosszija 1-en arról beszélt, hogy a nemzetközi közösségnek el kell ítélnie Ankara hegyi-karabahi tevékenységét, illetve az azeri-török agressziót, és fel kell szólítania a török vezetést arra, hogy hagyja el a dél-kaukázusi térséget.

Az örmény védelmi minisztérium kiadott egy videót, amelyen egy azeri páncélos kilövése látható. A tűzharcban egy azeri harci helikoptert is lelőttek. Nem sokkal később Örményország statáriumot hirdetett, és általános mozgósítást rendelt el.
 
Nikol Pashinyan örmény kormányfő azt mondta, „Alijev diktatórikus rendszere nem hagy fel az ellenségeskedéssel. Ez háború az örmény nép ellen”. A 4400 négyzetkilométernyi Hegyi-Karabah 50 kilométerre fekszik az örmény határtól. Az Örményország által támogatott fegyveresek rajta kívül az azeri terület más, környező részét is ellenőrzésük alatt tartják.
 
Az Európai Unió vezetői a fegyveres konfliktus azonnali beszüntetésére szólították fel a két országot.
 
A két szomszédos volt szovjet tagköztársaság területi vitája több évtizedre nyúlik vissza: a túlnyomórészt örmények lakta Hegyi-Karabah a Szovjetunió megszűnésekor, 1991-ben kinyilvánította függetlenségét, vagyis elszakadását Azerbajdzsántól. Baku fegyverrel lépett föl a szeparatisták ellen. Az 1994-ben kötött fegyverszünetet folyamatosan megsértik a felek.

Mint arról már korábban beszámoltunk, óriásira nőtt a feszültség Örményország és Azerbajdzsán között vasárnap délelőtt, miután Jereván közlése szerint az azeri erők nehéztüzérséggel támadtak célpontokat Hegyi-Karabah területén. Azeri közlés szerint akciójuk ellencsapás volt, válasz arra, hogy az örmény támogatást élvező erők azeri célpontokat támadtak a régióban.
 
A helyi hatóságok arról számoltak be, hogy a régió székhelyén, Sztepanakertben és a környező falvakban is lövedékek csapódtak be, több ház is megrongálódott, és sebesültek is vannak. Vasárnap reggel az örmény kormányfő közölte, hogy egy azeri támadást elhárítva az örmény haderő lelőtt két azeri katonai helikoptert, három drónt, és kilőtt három páncélozott harcjárművet. Azeri részről azt állították, hogy az általuk indított katonai akció válasz volt egy örmény támadásra.
 
  
 
Az EU-tagállamok nevében Charles Michel, az Európai Tanács elnöke „súlyos aggodalmának” adott hangot, és felszólította a feleket, hogy haladéktalanul szüntessék be a katonai műveleteket, és térjenek vissza a tárgyalásokhoz.
 
„Ez az egyedüli járható út”, az egyedüli módja annak, hogy elejét vegyék a konfliktus eszkalálódásának – írta Twitter-üzenetében a vezető uniós tisztségviselő. Törökországban a kormánypárt szóvivője, Omer Celik azt írta Twitter-oldalán, hogy Ankara „vehemensen elítéli az Azerbajdzsán elleni örmény támadást”. A török álláspont szerint „örmény provokáció” történt, és „Örményország veszélyezteti a regionális békét”. A török elnök szóvivője is elítélte Örményországot, amiért „polgári célpontokra támadt, és ezzel megsértette a tűzszünetet”.
 
A két, egymással szomszédos korábbi szovjet köztársaságnak régóta területi vitája van egymással: a túlnyomórészt örmények lakta Hegyi-Karabah a Szovjetunió megszűnésekor, 1991-ben kinyilvánította függetlenségét, vagyis elszakadását Azerbajdzsántól. Baku fegyverrel lépett föl a szeparatisták ellen, és bár a felek 1994-ben fegyverszünetet kötöttek, a térség azóta is alacsony intenzitású fegyveres konfliktus színtere. Júliusban a szinte mindennapos határ menti villongásoknál komolyabb összecsapás tört ki Hegyi-Karabahtól északnyugatra, az azeri-örmény határ térségében. A felek akkor is egymást okolták a konfliktus elmérgesedéséért.

2020. szeptember 27-én, vasárnap reggel teljes értékű harcok újultak ki Azerbajdzsán és Örményország között. A harci cselekményeknek már áldozatai is vannak, főleg a civilek között. A felek tüzérségi valamint nehéz katonai technikát is bevetették. Részleteket az Espresso.TV közölt.
 
 
„Szeptember 27-én, körülbelül 6:00 órakor az örmény fegyveres erők nagyszabású provokációkat hajtottak végre, intenzív lövéssorozatokat adtak le  az azerbajdzsáni hadsereg pozícióira a teljes frontvonal mentén, valamint annak közelében található településekre nagy kaliberű fegyverekkel, gránátvetőkkel és különféle kaliberű tüzérségi fegyverekkel. Ennek következtében a Terter járási Gapanli falu, az Agdami járásban található Csiragli és Orta Gervend falvak, a Fizulinszki járási Alhanli és Sukjurbejli falvak, valamint a Dzsebraili járásban található Dzsodzsug Mardzsanli falu lakosai között sokan megsebesültek, áldozatok is vannak. A polgári infrastruktúra létesítményei súlyosan megrongálódtak” – közölte az azeri védelmi minisztérium.
 
Az azerbajdzsáni fél polgári lakossága és katonasága veszteségeiről szóló információk ellenőrzése folyamatban van. „Azerbajdzsáni hadsereg egységei megtorló intézkedésekre készülnek” – közölték Bakuban.
 
Nikol Pasinyan örmény miniszterelnök az ellenkezőjét állítja, mondván, hogy az azeri hadsereg volt az első, aki megkezdte a harci cselekményeket és nem fordítva. „Az ellenség támadást indított Arcah ellen (Örményország így nevezi Hegyi-Karabahot). A hadsereg sikeresen visszaveri a támadásokat. A helyzet operatív fejlődésben van”- írta a Facebookon körülbelül 07:00 órakor.
 
Sushan Sztepanyan örmény védelmi minisztérium sajtótitkára szerint az azeri hadsereg állítólag légi és rakétatámadásokat indítottak Karabah ellen.
 
Azerbajdzsán a teljes frontvonal mentén offenzívát folytat – közölte a karabahi „védelmi minisztérium” sajtószolgálata. Dzsalal Arutyunyan, a karabahi „védelmi hadsereg” parancsnoka elmondta, hogy az azerbajdzsáni hadsereg 07:10-kor hatalmas támadást indított.
