Lina Hidalgo, Harris megyei bíró halálesetről vagy súlyos sérülésről nem számolt be. A hatóságok szerdán közölték, hogy a tartományban eddig hét ember halt meg, médiajelentések szerint közülük hárman úgy vesztették életüket, hogy a széllökések ablakkal együtt kiszakították őket magasan lévő lakásukból. A hatóságok még vizsgálják, ez hogyan volt lehetséges, de egy épület 20. emeleti lakói közül az egyik szerint családtagjainak is kapaszkodniuk kellett a lakásban az erős szél miatt.
A golflabda méretű jégesővel kísért hatalmas esők és szélviharok az elmúlt több mint egy évtized legpusztítóbb viharai, a helyi hatóságok szerint körülbelül 150 millió jüan gazdasági kárt okoztak.
A kínai meteorológiai intézet heves, a helyi skálán a 12-es fokozatot is elérő szélviharokra adott ki figyelmeztetést, ez első kategóriájú tájfunnak felel meg.
Az ilyen erősségű szelek gyakoriak Kínában és Kelet-Ázsia más részein, de ritkán fordulnak elő a szárazföldön, például a tengerparttal nem rendelkező Csianghszi tartományban. 2013 óta ez az első narancssárga, legsúlyosabb figyelmeztetés szélsőséges időjárásra a térségben.

Az állam kezében lévő Energex villamosművek azt közölte, 57 ezer felhasználó maradt áram nélkül és Queensland-szerte 120 villamosvezeték meghibásodását jelentették be.
A The Courier-Mail című helyi lap úgy tudja, az államban található Logan, illetve Brisbane néhány része hétfőn is áram nélkül maradhat, az Energex szóvivője pedig azt tanácsolta a lakosoknak, hogy ha lehetséges, használjanak generátorokat.
További heves viharokra és árvizekre figyelmeztettek a Queenslanddel szomszédos Új-Dél-Wales állam hatóságai is.
A szárazság fokozódásáért és a viharok szokatlan erejéért az El Nino időjárási jelenség a felelős, mely hét év után alakult ki újra a csendes-óceáni térségben.
Mindeközben Ausztrália több államában, köztük Nyugat-Ausztráliában, az Északi Területeken, valamint Queensland keleti részén hőségriadót rendeltek el, az országos meteorológiai szolgálat pedig azt közölte, hogy a hőmérő higanyszála akár 45 Celsius-fokra is felkúszhat.
Nyugat-Ausztrália államban több mint 20 bozóttűzről is tudni, az egyik az állam katasztrófavédelme szerint a mintegy 5000 lakosú Pemberton mellett tombol.
A helyi tűzoltóság azt közölte, a helyzet a szárazság miatt a nap folyamán várhatóan rosszabbra fordul, és hozzátette, hogy az utóbbi öt napban már több mint 1000 tűzoltót mozgósítottak az oltásra.

Ausztriában az ítéletidőnek halálos áldozata is volt. A Zoltán nevű vihar hatalmas pusztítást hagyott maga után az ország keleti részén. A 100 kilométer/órás szél villanyvezetékeket szakított le, fákat és villanyomszlopokat döntött ki. Alsó-Ausztriában egy 81 éves vadász épp egy magaslesen volt a hóvihar idején, amikor rádőlt egy fa. Mire a tűzoltóknak sikerült eljutniuk a helyszínre, a férfi már meghalt.
Eközben Belgiumban a Pia nevű vihar okozott tragédiát. Az erős szél kidöntött egy karácsonyfát az egyik észak-belgiumi város karácsonyi vásárában.
Hárman megsérültek, egyikük néhány órával később a kórházban meghalt.
A vásárt azóta bezárták.
