Az elhullott halak a múlt héten kezdtek felhalmozódni a partokon és a strandokon. A helyiek arról számoltak be, hogy helyenként rozsdaszínű lett a víz. Ez hívják vörös árapálynak.
Szerdán megkezdték a hétvégén felhalmozódott, elhullott rák, rája, sügér és egyéb haltetemek eltávolítását az oaklandi Merritt-tó partjáról – írja a Sky News.
A tömeges halpusztulást az öbölben tavaly július óta terjedő káros algavirágzás okozta.
A mikroszkopikus algák olyan méreganyagokat termelhetnek, amelyek elpusztítják a halakat és veszélyessé teszik a kagylók fogyasztását, valamint szennyezik a vizeket. Az algák tömegeinek a pusztulás és lebomlása kimeríti a víz oxigénjét, ennek következtében az állatok elhagyják az életterüket, vagy elpusztulnak.

Megolvadtak a kifutópályák a brit légierő egyik bázisán. Nagy-Britanniában akkora hőség van, hogy a világtörténelemben most először adott ki vörös figyelmeztetést a meteorológiai szolgálat.
Felfüggesztette a működést London egyik reptere, a Luton, mert a példátlan hőség miatt hibák keletkeztek a kifutópályán – közölte a Sky News. A kifutópályán jelenleg is dolgoznak, hogy a reptér mihamarabb újra működni tudjon.
Nagy-Britanniában az extrém hőség miatt vészhelyzetet hirdettek ki, a meteorológiai szolgálat pedig története során először kényszerült vörös riasztást kiadni. Ugyanakkor a hőhullám még nem is tetőzött, azt keddre várják, 39 fok körüli hőmérséklettel.
A brit légierő számára is problémát okoz a hőség; a Sky tudósítása szerint az egyik legnagyobb bázison, a Brize Nortonon megolvadt a kifutópálya.
A hőhullám miatt a vonatközlekedés is akadozik: komoly esélye van, hogy a hőség miatt meghajlanak a sínek, így a vonatok csak csökkentett sebességgel közlekedhetnek, így például Leeds és London között a megszokott két és fél óra alatt most öt órán át tart a vonatút.
A briteket arra biztatják, hogy tekintsenek el a nem létfontosságú utazásoktól.
