A tavaly augusztustól idén márciusig tartó tűzvészben több mint 12 millió hektárnyi terület leégett, háromezernél több lakóház megsemmisült. Már az ország nyolc tartományából hatban pusztító lángokban 33 ember életét vesztette.
A keletkezett füst miatt megromlott a levegő minősége az ausztrál nagyvárosokban, köztük Sydneyben és a fővárosban, Canberrában, ahol januárban elérte a veszélyességi szint negyvenszeresét is.
A természeti katasztrófák elleni fellépés készültségét, az arra adandó választ és a későbbi helyreállítást vizsgáló független bizottság szakértőinek megállapítása szerint a lángok keltette füst az ausztrál lakosság nyolcvan százalékát hátrányosan érintette. Fay Johnson, a Tasmániai Egyetem professzora, környezetvédelmi egészségügyi szakértőnő azt mondta, hogy a füstnek súlyosabb egészségügyi következményei voltak, mint maguknak a lángoknak.
A füsttel közvetlenül összefüggésbe hozható egészségügyi költségek elérték az 1,3 milliárd amerikai dollárt. Ez az összeg négyszer nagyobb annál, mint amit 2002 és 2003 Ausztráliában költöttek, amikor a kontinensnyi ország történetében a második legnagyobb és legsúlyosabb bozóttűz tombolt – hangoztatta Johnson.
Összesen 445 haláleset tulajdonítható a bozóttüzek keltette füstnek. Ezt egy, a kórházi felvételeket és a levegőminőség közötti összefüggéseket vizsgáló tanulmány mutatta ki. A felmérés azt is megállapította, hogy 3340 kórházi felvétel szív- és tüdőbetegséggel volt kapcsolatos, további 1373 pedig asztmatikus megbetegedéssel. Ezek mindegyike a bozóttüzeknek tulajdonítható – fejtette ki a kutató.

„Úgy nézett ki, hogy a tüzet péntek estére sikerült eloltani, ám a lángok szombat hajnalban újra felcsaptak az érintett, legalább 40 hektárnyi területen” – tájékoztatta a szlovák közszolgálati hírügynökséget (TASR) szombat délelőtt Zuzana Farkasová, a Szlovák Tűzoltóság szóvivője.
Farkasová arról is beszámolt, hogy a helyszínen jelenleg is legalább negyven hivatásos tűzoltó dolgozik Rimaszombatból, Tornaljáról, Fülekről és Losoncról.
Az oltási műveletben részt vesznek a rimajánosi, feledi, rimaráhói és ajnácskői önkéntes tűzoltók is.

Szombat este fél hét körül tűz ütött ki a Kanári-szigetekhez tartozó Gran Canaria nyugati részén. Tasarte nevű település 500 fős lakosságát a tűz miatt evakuálni kellett. A hatóságok mérlegelik, hogy más településeket is evakuáljanak-e.
A tűz meglehetősen gyorsan terjed az erős, időnként 100 km/órás szél miatt, és a helyi sajtó szerint elérheti a közeli Inagua nemzeti parkot. Az előrejelzések szerint a szél csak erősödni fog, nehezítve az oltást. Legutóbb tavaly nyár végén voltak komoly erdőtüzek a Kanári-szigeteken, akkor négyezer embert kellett kitelepíteni a tűzvész útjából.

Az ausztráliai
fővárosi területen pénteken szükségállapotot hirdettek a Canberra déli
határában pusztító bozóttűz miatt.
„A rendkívüli hőség, a szél és a száraz vidék együttese
miatt veszélybe kerülnek Canberra déli elővárosai a következő napokban” –
közölte Andrew Barr, az Ausztráliai fővárosi terület főminisztere újságírókkal
Canberrában.
Mint mondta, az Ausztráliai fővárosi terület déli részén
található Namadgi nemzeti parkban pusztító, orroral-völgyi bozóttűz 18 500
hektárt, vagyis a közigazgatási egység területének csaknem 8 százalékát már
felperzselte, s most a lakóterületeket fenyegeti.
„Ez a tűz nagyon kiszámíthatatlanná, esetleg
ellenőrizhetetlenné válhat” – hangsúlyozta Barr.
Jelenleg több száz tűzoltó küzd a lángok megfékezése
érdekében.
A szükségállapotot 72 órára rendelték el. A rendkívüli
jogrend ilyen helyzetben a többi között felhatalmazást ad a hatóságoknak
evakuálások elrendelésére, útlezárásokra, az áram- és vízszolgáltatás
leállítására, illetve a mentési munkálatokhoz bármely létesítmény vagy
földterület igénybe vételére.
Barr szerint Canberra „a 2003-ban pusztított tűzvész óta nem
látott fenyegetéssel áll szembe”. A négy életet követelő 2003-as bozóttűz 160
ezer hektárt perzselt fel, vagyis a fővárosi terület kétharmadát.
A fővárosi területtel határos Új-Dél-Wales állam tűzoltósága
már figyelmeztetést adott ki, hogy a orroral-völgyi bozóttűz a nap folyamán át
fog terjedni az államhatáron. Az oltást nagyban megnehezíti, hogy az időjárás
előrejelzések szerint helyenként 40 Celsius fokos hőség várható a hétvégén.
Victoria és Új-Dél-Wales államok területén jelenleg 80 másik
bozóttűz tombol.
Szeptember óta az országban több mint 12 millió hektárt
emésztettek fel a lángok, 33 ember meghalt, 2500 ház semmisült meg és egymillió
állat elpusztult.
