A görögországi Korfu szigetén emelték ki a tengerből annak a két nőnek a holttestét, akik egy úszásra nem alkalmas területen vesztették életüket.
A mentőegység két halott nőt emelt ki a tengerből. A holttesteket Korfu szigetén, Sidari városában találták meg. Az előzetes információk szerint Ukrajnából érkezett turistákról van szó – anyáról és lányáról, 52 és 32 évesek.
A kedvezőtlen időjárási viszonyok, köztük a viharos szél ellenére úszni mentek. A nőket egy szállodai karszalag alapján azonosították. A szálloda személyzete szerint a család rendszeres vendég volt – minden évben ellátogattak Korfura.

Holtan találtak a görögországi Peloponnészosz-félsziget északi részén hétfőn két embert, akik a régióban előző nap kitört erdőtüzek áldozatai lettek – közölte a rendőrség.
A jelentés szerint a holttestek súlyosan megégtek, azonosításukhoz laboratóriumi vizsgálatokra van szükség.
A tengerparti Xilokasztro város közelében, Athéntól mintegy 120 kilométerre nyugatra fekvő hegyvidéki területen vasárnap felcsapó és az erős szél miatt gyorsan terjedő lángok visszaszorítására több száz tűzoltót vezényeltek a helyszínre, és kilenc repülőgépet vetettek be.
A hatóságok elrendelték több település evakuálását, a katasztrófavédelem pedig vizsgálja a tűz kialakulásának okát.
Görögországban az idei volt az eddigi legforróbb nyár az időjárásra vonatkozó adatok feljegyzésének kezdete óta, miután a mérések szerint az eddigi legenyhébb telet követően nagy területeken alig vagy egyáltalán nem esett csapadék.

Rendszeresen gyújtogatott a görögországi Peloponnészoszi-félsziget Trípoli nevű városában egy 44 éves nő, hogy flörtölhessen a kiérkező tűzoltókkal.
A helyi rendőrség augusztus végén tartóztatta le az elkövetőt, aki két erődtűzért is felelős volt. A görög állampolgárságú nő szerette nézni, ahogy az egyenruhás férfiak eloltják a lángokat.
Szándékosan, rendszeres jelleggel gyújtogatott egy 44 éves görög, tripoliszi nő, hogy flörtölhessen a kiérkező tűzoltókkal. Az utóbbi időben két erdőtűzért is felelős volt – számolt be róla a Greek Reporter.
A helyi nyomozóknak hamar gyanús lett, hogy a nő két szántóföldi tűznél is jelen volt. A Skai TV beszámolója szerint a nő egyenruhás férfiakkal akart találkozni, emellett szerette nézni, ahogy a tűzoltók eloltják a lángokat.
A 44 éves nőt augusztus 26-án tartóztatták le a tripoli rendőrség nyomozói. Büntetésként 36 hónap börtönbüntetést kapott, amelyből ténylegesen két hónapot kell leülnie, valamint ezer eurós pénzbírságot is kiszabtak rá.

Ahilleász Beosz polgármester újságírók előtt úgy fogalmazott, hogy környezeti katasztrófa sújtja a kikötővárost, aminek súlyos közegészségügyi és idegenforgalmi következményei lesznek. A környéken hat strandot kénytelenek voltak lezárni.
Az elpusztult halak tömegének megjelenését a szakértők a tavalyi viharokhoz kötik, amelyek miatt több ezer hektár terület került víz alá Vólosz környékén.
Az édesvízi halak a kisebb tavakban elszaporodtak az áradás sújtotta síkságon, de ahogy az árvizek visszahúzódtak, a víztömeg folyókon és csatornákon keresztül a tengerbe jutott. Vólosz kikötőjében az odasodródott halak többsége elpusztult a sós víz vagy az oxigénhiány miatt.

A görög parti őrség lelőtt egy migránst Szími szigete előtt – jelentette pénteken az ERT görög közszolgálati rádió a hatóságokra hivatkozva.
A beszámoló szerint az incidens során a parti őrség egyik járőrhajója megpróbált feltartóztatni egy török partokról indult motorcsónakot. Utóbbi kormányosa fittyet hányt a parti őrség szirénáira és vizuális jelzéseire, s hajóját a járőrhajónak akarta vezetni. A parti őrség ekkor nyitott tüzet a motorcsónak irányába, megállítva azt.
A meglőtt migránst Rodosz szigetének kórházába szállították, ahol megállapították halálát.
A csónakban lévő további 13 személyt előállították – közölte a Kathimerini című görög napilap.
A görög ügyészség vizsgálatot indított az ügyben.
Az ENSZ Menekültügyi Főbiztossága (UNHCR) szerint augusztus 18-ig bezárólag mintegy 25 500 illegális bevándorló érte el Görögország és ezzel az Európai Unió területét Törökország felől.

Görögországban a vámosok mintegy 93 kilogramm kokaint foglaltak le az észak-görögországi Thesszaloniki város kikötőjében. A hírt a Jevropejszka pravda közölte az АР-re hivatkozva.
Kokaint találtak egy hajón, amely Ecuadorból érkezett Thesszalonikibe. Egy francia cégnek kellett volna továbbszállítania a banánt szárazföldön Romániába – közölte a vámügyi műveleteket felügyelő görög független állami bevételi hatóság (IAPR).

A görög fővárostól, Athéntól mintegy 35 kilométerre északra található Varnavánál mintegy 500 tűzoltó küzd a lángokkal, amelyek már elérték a lakóépületeket is. A tűzoltók munkáját 40 tűzoltóautó, 19 repülőgép és helikopter segíti. A lángok több mint 25 méter magasra csapnak fel, jelentette a tűzoltóság egyik szóvivője – számolt be a VAOL.
A polgári védelem szöveges üzenetben riasztotta a térség lakóit, hogy hagyják el otthonukat. Többen füstmérgezést kaptak és kórházi kezelésre szorulnak, de turisztikai létesítmények eddig nem kerültek veszélybe. Az Athéntól nyugatra található Megaránál is öt tűzoltócsapat küzd a lángokkal.
Az erdőtüzek miatt sűrű füst lepte el Athén egyes negyedeit. A polgári védelem térképet is közzétett, amely szerint Athén körzetében és az ország más részein is a legmagasabb fokú tűzveszély áll fenn. Az idei nyár különösen veszélyes, mivel a meteorológiai feljegyzések kezdete óta a legmelegebb júniusi és júliusi hőmérsékleteket mérték, valamint a legmelegebb telet.
Kosztasz Laguvardosz, az athéni meteorológiai központ igazgatója szerint a hosszú ideje tartó szárazság és a hőhullám teszi különösen veszélyessé a helyzetet.
