A Tokiótól északnyugatra fekvő japán kikötővárosokban rekordmennyiségű hó esett, ami miatt autók százai rekedtek a főútvonalakon éjszakára, a helyi vonatközlekedésben pedig fennakadások voltak, és helyenként az áramszolgáltatás is akadozott kedden.
Niigata prefektúrában a hóban rekedt autósoknak a katasztrófaelhárító egységek segítettek kiszabadulni a Kasivazaki és más városok környékén kialakult dugókból.
A japán közlekedési miniszter közleménye szerint folyik a Kasivazaki autópályáján kialakult torlódás megszüntetése, de a helyi hatóságok szerint másfelé – Nagoaka és Odzsija autópályáin – jelenleg nincs mód a helyzet javítására.
Helyi idő szerint kedden hajnalban Kasivazaki környékén legalább nyolcszáz jármű vesztegelt a hóban. A hatóságok szerint a hóeltakarításnak köszönhetően három órával később a számuk háromszázra apadt.
Több mint fél nap alatt 50 métert haladtak
Az éjszakát a dugóban töltő Mijazava Kumi általános iskolai tanár arról számolt be, hogy a torlódás már hétfőn délután kezdődött, és 15 óra alatt mindössze 50 métert haladt előre az úton kedd reggelig. Mint mondta, a hóban ragadt emberek segítettek egymásnak, egy út menti irodából innivalót kaptak, és a mosdóba is beengedték őket.
A heves havazás nagy területeken áramkimaradásokat is okozott, és fennakadások vannak a vonatközlekedésben. A Kelet-japán Vasúttársaság számos helyi járatát felfüggesztette.
A kedd reggelt megelőző 24 órában 87 centiméter hó hullott a Niigata prefektúrabeli Uonumában, 76 centiméter Nagaokában és 72 centiméter Kasivazakiban. A Japán Meteorológiai Szolgálat jelentése szerint néhány térségben háromszor annyi hó esett, mint az évszaknak megfelelő átlag, Jamagata prefektúrában egy faluban 2,24 méter hó hullott, Niigata prefektúrában pedig egy településen 1,87 méter magas havat mértek.

A közlekedési rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint vasárnap délelőtt leállították a manőverezést Románia valamennyi tengeri és folyami kikötőjében az erős szél miatt.
Románia területének nagy részén − a Bánság és Partium kivételével − vasárnap estig elsőfokú (sárga) meteorológiai figyelmeztetés van érvényben az óránként 75 kilométeres sebességet is elérő széllökések miatt. A Székelyföld hegyvidéki részeire és a Keleti-Kárpátok más térségeire narancssárga riasztást adtak ki: itt óránként 90-100 kilométeres sebességű széllökések várhatók.

Egy gyermek meghalt a szíriai Qastal Miqdad városában, amikor a hó súlya alatt összeomlott a nagy katonai sátor.
Az extrém hidegnek több gyermek áldozata is van.
A helyi menekültügyi szervezetek szerint több ezer ember van veszélyben az extrém hideg miatt. Ráadásul az előrejelzések szerint a hőmérséklet akár −14 Celsius-fok alá is csökkenhet, ami 40 éve nem látott hőmérsékleti rekordnak számítana – olvasható az Esőtánc cikkében.
Havazásról számoltak be Irakból is, ahol az északi Kurdzsisztán tartományt borította be a hó. A fővárosban, Bagdadban 1914 után és 2020 után harmadjára észleltek havazást.
Szaúd-Arábia sem úszta meg, január 12-én az északon fekvő Tabuk régióban havazott. A térség nagyjából 400 méterre fekszik a tenger szintje felett. A hideg időjárás ráadásul tartósnak bizonyul, volt olyan térség, ahol −5 Celsius-fokot is mértek.

Jordániában, Aqaba városában +5 Celsius-fok volt
