A lelkészt és segítőjét letartóztatták, és a nyomozók most bizonyítékokat keresnek arra vonatkozólag, hogy az embereket akaratuk ellenére tartották bezárva.

A támadók az Ondo állambeli Owo városának Szent Ferenc katolikus templomát vették célba, amikor a hívők pünkösd vasárnapján összegyűltek – mondta Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole törvényhozó.

A tömeg még a szombat reggeli nyitás előtt türelmetlenné vált, betörte a kapukat, és bezúdult a területre. Ezt követően pánikhangulat alakult ki, vélhetőleg a nagy zsúfoltság miatt – mondta el Grace Iringe-Koko rendőrségi szóvivő.
Az áldozatokat, akik között nők és gyermekek is voltak, a közeli katonai kórházba szállították. A rendőrség nyomozást indított az ügyben, és többeket őrizetbe vett.

A nigériai Lagosban, több tucat munkás rekedhetett a romok alatt, amikor összeomlott egy építés alatt álló 21 emeletes toronyház − jelentette be a helyi katasztrófavédelem ügyvivő vezetője, Ibrahim Farinloye.
Egyelőre nem tudni, pontosan hányan szorultak a romok közé, de eddig legalább három munkást sikerült élve kimenteni. Egyikük a helyi televíziónak nyilatkozva elmondta, hogy mintegy ötvenen dolgoztak az épületben, amikor összeomlott.
