A 71 éves elnököt le is filmezték a Praia do Alvor strandon, amint odaúszik a felborult jármű mellett hánykolódó kajakosokhoz. Később riportereknek elmondta, hogy a nőket az erős hullámok a szomszédos strandról sodorták be az öbölbe – írja a BBC.com.
Rebelo de Sousa elnök Algarve tartományban nyaral, hogy népszerűsítse az ottani turizmust. Az ország gazdaságának ugyanis jelentős részét a turizmus adja, amelyet azonban súlyosan érintett a koronavírus-járvány.
Éppen erről adott interjút az elnök, amikor észrevette a bajbajutott nőket. Rajta kívül odaúszott és jetskin is odaérkezett egy-egy férfi. Végül közös erővel a partra vitték a kajakot.
A 20 Minutos csatornán elhangzott, hogy az elnök a nyaralását az ország különböző területein tölti, hogy népszerűsítse a helyi turizmust.

Jelenleg több mint hétszáz tűzoltó dolgozik a lángok megfékezésén és 14 repülő is segíti a levegőből a munkát – nyilatkozta Eduardo Cabrita miniszter.
A prioritás az emberi életek megóvása, ha szükséges, akkor az evakuálás elvégzése is. A miniszter azt is elmondta, hogy szoros kapcsolatban van a környező települések polgármesterivel, és a legfontosabb a lakosság támogatása – írja egy helyi lap.
A reggeli sajtótájékoztatón Luís Belo Costa tűzoltó parancsnok elmondta, hogy a szombaton keletkezett tűzben meghalt egy tűzoltó, és további hat ember megsérült.
A régió időjárás előrejelzése szerint vasárnap a hőmérséklet elérheti a 43 fokot, és erős, 65 km/órás szél várható, mindezek mellett nagyon alacsony a páratartalom. Ez nagyon megnehezíti a tűzoltók munkáját.

Az erdőtüzek Európában a legjobban Portugáliát sújtják: az ország erdőterületeinek több mint három százaléka áll lángokban minden évben – jelentette a portugál természetvédelmi egyesület (ANP) és a Természetvédelmi Világalap (WWF) csütörtökön.
A jelentés szerint Európát tekintve Portugáliában történt a legtöbb erdőtűz-baleset és ebben az országban perzselődött fel a legtöbb hektárnyi erdőterület az elmúlt harminc évben.
A mutatók szerint éves szinten átlagosan 17 ezer tűzeset történik 120 ezer hektárnyi területet érintve, ami 20 százalékkal több mint Spanyolországban, annak ellenére, hogy Portugália 80 százalékkal kevesebb erdőterülettel rendelkezik.
„Portugália Európát tekintve az első, világviszonylatban a negyedik helyen áll a 21. század eleje óta odaveszett erdőterületek tekintetében, amiért döntőn az országot nyaranta sújtó erdőtüzek a felelősek” – olvasható a jelentésben.
A WWF szerint a portugál erdőtüzek számos tényezővel, köztük a hagyományos mezőgazdasági tevékenységek megszűnésével és a felelős erdőgazdálkodás hiányával vannak összefüggésben.
A szervezet szerint az erdőtüzek nem csupán a környezetet károsítják, hanem komoly kockázatot jelentenek az emberek életére is, ezreket kényszerítve otthonaik elhagyására és súlyos anyagi károkat okozva.
A jelentés szerint a nagy tüzek megakadályozása érdekében hangsúlyt kell fektetni a megelőzésre, a vidéki területek fejlesztésére és a lakosság hozzáállásának a megváltoztatására.

Új gyanúsítottja van a Portugáliában 13 éve eltűnt brit kislány, Madeleine McCann ügyének. A Scotland Yard szerda esti londoni bejelentése szerint nagy jelentőségű új nyomozati szálról van szó.
A gyermeknek a dél-portugáliai Praia da Luz főleg britek által látogatott Ocean Club nevű üdülőközpontjában veszett nyoma 2007 májusában, néhány nappal negyedik születésnapja előtt.
A szőke kislány – két kisebb testvérével – a család földszinti szállodai szobájában aludt, miközben szülei az üdülő szabadtéri éttermében, baráti társasággal vacsoráztak.
Az ügy szinte példátlan nemzetközi figyelmet keltett, különösen azután, hogy a portugál rendőrség 2007 őszén az Angliában élő orvos szülőket nyilvánította gyanúsítottá. A gyanúsítást egy évvel később – érdemi bizonyítékok hiányában – feloldották, a kislánynak viszont azóta sem lelik nyomát.
A londoni rendőrség szerda esti bejelentése szerint a brit és a német nyomozók egy német férfi személyében azonosították az ügy gyanúsítottját.
A 43 éves, közelebbről nem azonosított férfi jelenleg egy német börtönben ül, olyan bűncselekmény miatt, amely nincs összefüggésben a Madeleine McCann-üggyel, de 1995 és 2007 között megszakításokkal Praia da Luzban élt.
A Scotland Yard beszámolója szerint a német férfi sokáig, akár hetekig is egy portugál rendszámú régi Volkswagen kisbuszban lakhatott, és ezt a járművet használhatta 2007. május 3-án, Madeleine McCann eltűnésének napján is.
A rendőrség azonosított egy német rendszámú, Jaguar XJR 6 típusú autót is, amely szintén a gyanúsított nevére volt bejegyezve és a portugáliai üdülőhelyen volt, de a brit kislány eltűnése után egy nappal, 2007. május 4-én egy másik német állampolgár nevére íratták át.
A Scotland Yard kéri azok jelentkezését, akik a két járművet – amelyeket a német rendőrség lefoglalt – 2007 tavaszán és nyarán egymás közelében látták.
A nyomozók felvilágosítást kérnek két mobiltelefon ügyében is. Az egyiken, amelynek száma +351 912 730 680, a rendőrségi vizsgálat szerint a gyanúsított telefonhívást fogadott Madeleine McCann eltűnésének estéjén Praia da Luz körzetében.
A hívás a +351 916 510 683 mobiltelefonszámról érkezett a gyanúsított telefonjára, és a tájékoztatás szerint a nyomozók tudják, hogy a hívó fél nem a portugáliai üdülőhelyen tartózkodott a beszélgetés idején.
A Scotland Yard részletek nélkül közölte, hogy a hívót az ügy „nagyon nagy jelentőségű” tanújának tartja, és kéri jelentkezését.
A londoni rendőrség kéri azok jelentkezését is, akik ismerik vagy valaha is hívták ezeket a telefonszámokat, illetve e számok szerepelnek saját – esetleg valamelyik régi – telefonjuk listáján.
A Scotland Yard hangsúlyozta, hogy 20 ezer font (7,8 millió forint) nyomravezetői díj jár minden olyan információért, amely elvezet a brit kislány eltűnéséért felelős személy büntetőjogi felelősségre vonásához.
Mark Cranwell főfelügyelő, az ügy felderítésén dolgozó nyomozócsoport vezetője a szerdai tájékoztatáshoz fűzött nyilatkozatában felfedte, hogy a Scotland Yard 2017 novemberében vette fel a kapcsolatot a német szövetségi bűnügyi hatósággal (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA), és azóta a két bűnüldözési szerv hatalmas munkát végzett a Madeleine McCann-ügy felderítéséért.
Cranwell szerint a munka eredményeként azonosították a német férfit az ügy gyanúsítottjaként, bár a nyomozók továbbra is nyitott kérdésként kezelik, hogy az illetőnek volt-e szerepe a kislány eltűnésében.
Madeleine McCannt az eltűnése óta eltelt 13 évben Marokkótól Belgiumon, Svédországon, Kanadán és Dubajon át Ausztráliáig a világ szinte minden pontján látni vélték, de sehol nem akadtak a nyomára.
A szülők által létrehozott alapítvány rendszeresen közzétesz számítógépes eljárással „öregített” fotóhű portrékat arról, hogy a négyévesen eltűnt Madeleine kora haladtával éppen hogy nézhet ki, de eddig ez sem vezetett eredményre.
Az ügyben hosszú évek óta a Scotland Yard szerda esti bejelentése az első komoly horderejű fejlemény.
