Ilyen meleget csak egyszer, tavaly augusztusban mértek a Halál-völgyben. A legtöbb szakértő ezt tartja a Földön valaha mért legmagasabb hőmérsékletnek. Van egy feljegyzés 1913-ból 56,7 fokról, de azt klímakutatók vitatják. (A Földön ennél melegebb is szokott lenni egyes helyeken, sivagatokban, de ott nincs mérőállomás.)
Las Vegasban 47,2 foknál eddig nem volt melegebb – de ezt is túlszárnyalhatja a jövő héten a hőség.
Az extrém meleg alig pár héttel követi az előzőt, ami Észak-Amerikát sújtotta.
Kanada egy része is ezzel néz szembe, igaz, ott az előrejelzések szerint nem fog megdőlni a Lytton településen június végén mért 49,6 fok. Az Kanadában a rekord.
A klímaváltozás magával hozza a szélsőséges időjárást, extrém meleg periódusok gyakrabban fognak előfordulni, és erdőtüzek is gyakrabban fognak kipattanni, olyanok, amik jelenleg is pusztítanak Kaliforniában.

Az AP amerikai hírügynökség jelentése szerint szombaton Alabama szövetségi államban, az Egyesült Államok délkeleti részén a Claudette nevű trópusi viharban 15 jármű ütközött össze az Interstate 65 autópályán, Montgomerytől 55 kilométerre délre – tíz ember, köztük kilenc gyermek veszítette életét.
Egy másik tragédia is történt az ítéletidő miatt, egy 24 éves férfi és egy 3 éves kisfiú veszítette életét, amikor egy fa dőlt a házukra Tuscaloosa város határában.

Indiát nemcsak a koronavírus második hullámának következményei sújtják, sajnos az ország helyzetét a Tauktae nevű ciklon is nehezíti. Tizenkét halálos áldozatot követelt eddig a már három tagállamban végigsöpört ítéletidő. Több államban magas a készültség, keddre virradóra az északnyugat-indiai Gudzsarát tartományban pedig akár 160 km/órás szélre is számítanak.

„India nyugati részén, Gudzsarát államban felkészültek a Tauktae ciklonra, ami a legerősebb vihar lehet a térségben 1998 óta” – írta a BBC honlapja. A Hindustan Times szerint az 1998-as ciklon négyezer ember halálát okozta, több százmillió dolláros károkkal egyetemben.
A Hindustan Times című napilap online kiadása azt írta, hogy a koronavírus által is gyötört országban a vihar már legalább tizenkét áldozatot követelt, és ezreket evakuáltak. A ciklon eddig Kerala, Karnataka és Goa államokat sújtotta, hétfőn pedig elérte az északnyugati Gudzsarát és Mahárástra tartományt is. Keddre virradóra Gudzsarátban 160 km/órás szélre számítanak. Gudzsarátban és a szomszédos Mahárástrában egyaránt magas készültséget jelentettek be az erős esőzés és a szélvihar miatt.
Az alacsonyan fekvő területekről már több mint 150 ezer ember ment menedékhelyre.
A vihar a kórházak helyzetét is megnehezíti, Mahárástra székhelyén, Mumbai-ban, amely a tengerparton fekszik, már 580 koronavírusos beteget szállítottak covid-központokból kórházakba elővigyázatosságból. A legfrissebb videók alapján nem volt alaptalan a félelmük:
A hatóságok arra kérték az embereket, hogy ne menjenek az utcára, mert víz által elöntött utakra, tönkrement villamosvezetékekre és gyökerestül kifordult fákra számítanak. Halászhajók ezrei tértek vissza a kikötőkbe, és kerekedőhajók százai módosították az útvonalukat.
A Mumbai-i repteret eredetileg délután kettőig zárták le, a legújabb hírek szerint ezt este nyolcra módosították.

Már legalább 700 halálos áldozatuk van a monszunesők okozta áradásoknak és földcsuszamlásoknak Indiában, Nepálban és Bangladesben – derült ki a csütörtökön közzé tett hivatalos adatokból.
A Nemzetközi Vöröskereszt és a Vörös Félhold több mint 9,6 millióra becsüli azok számát, akik áldozataivá váltak az idei monszunesőknek. A segélyszervezetek hangsúlyozták, hogy noha ez az időszak minden évben áradásokat hoz magával, idén a helyzet a koronavírus-járvány miatt súlyosabb.
Felhívták a figyelmet arra is, hogy az áradások nagyon sok termőföldet öntöttek el, még nagyobb szegénységbe taszítva azokat, akiknek a járvány miatt így is nehezebbé vált a helyzete. Az indiai katasztrófavédelem keddi összesítése szerint az ország 11 államában legalább 571 ember halt meg az áradásokban, a monszun a kelet-indiai Asszám államot sújtotta legjobban.
Bangladesi hivatalos források legalább 25 halottról, köztük 21 gyerekről tudnak.
A nepáli rendőrség szóvivője szerint pedig az országban 126-an haltak meg áradásokban és földcsuszamlásokban, további 46-ot pedig még keresnek. A nepáli belügyminisztérium szerint súlyos károk keletkeztek egyebek közt hidakban és vízerőművekben is.
Dél-Ázsiában gyakoriak a földcsuszamlások a monszunesős időszakban, amely júniustól egészen szeptemberig tart.

A szolgálat adatai szerint június 22–23-án 8 megyében (Ivano-Frankivszk, Csernyivci, Kirovohrad, Vinnyica, Poltava, Lemberg, Odessza és Rivne) a rossz időjárás miatt (heves esőzések, széllökések) 26 fa dőlt ki, 174 lakóházat, 3 melléképületet, 23 pincét, 141 háztáji gazdaságot, 31 telket, 2 utcát, egy 100 m hosszú és 40 cm magas autóutat (Hrinyava–Holosina), 5 hektár mezőgazdasági földterületet árasztott el a víz, 2 iskola, 2 épület és 2 lakóház tetőszerkezete sérült meg. Az országban 4 földcsuszamlás történt (1 melléképületet megsemmisült, 26 járművet blokkolt, 22:00 órától helyreállt a forgalom). Két gyalogos hidat összeomlott. A Cseremos folyón (10 m hosszan) átszakadt a gát, amely alámosta az R-62 „Csernyivci-Verhovina” regionális jelentőségű autóút betonfalának tartófalát (50 m hosszan, a forgalom biztosítva van). Áldozatok nincsenek. A Katasztrófavédelmi Szolgálat egységei 4940 köbméter vizet szivattyúztak ki.
