Kolo arról számolt be, hogy a földműveseket, akik Koshobe falu rizsföldjein dolgoztak, az iszlamisták megkötözték, majd elvágták a torkukat.
Negyvenhárom holttestet találtunk – mondta Kolo. Azt is mondta, kétség sem fér ahhoz, hogy a támadást a Boko Haram hajtotta végre. Az iszlamisták októberben két offenzíva során 22 földművest gyilkoltak meg Maiduguri térségében.

Muhammadu Buhari nigériai elnök vasárnap este a Boko Haram terrorszervezethez köthető iszlamistákat vádolta a támadással. Egyben figyelmeztetett, hogy a szombaton történteknek súlyos következményei lesznek számukra.
„A Boko Haram terroristái bár visszavonulóban vannak, de fokozzák támadásaikat az ártatlan civilek ellen, köztük az ENSZ humanitárius dolgozói ellen abban az elkeseredett igyekezetükben, hogy erejüket bizonygassák, elfedve ezzel balsorsukat” – hangoztatta az államfő.
Edward Kallon, az ENSZ Nigériáért felelős humanitárius koordinátora szerint a halálos áldozatok egyike egy ötéves gyerek volt. Mint mondta, humanitárius dolgozók nem voltak a fedélzeten, a pilóták pedig nem sérültek meg, amikor a lövések eltalálták a helikoptert, amely a forrongó Borno államban volt úton.
„Az ENSZ humanitárius légiszolgálata elengedhetetlen a sérült civilek evakuálására, és kulcselemét képezi a humanitárius feladatok elvégzésének” – tette hozzá.
A biztonság szavatolása régóta kihívást jelent a Nigéria északkeleti felében tevékenykedő segélyszervezetek számára. Nem ritka, hogy a dzsihadisták humanitárius dolgozókat hurcoltak el, vagy gyilkoltak meg a térségben.
Bár eddig egy szélsőséges szervezet sem vállalta az ENSZ helikoptere elleni támadást, az nem sokkal a Boko Haram egyik szakadár csoportjának figyelmeztetését követően történt, miszerint célpontnak tekintik azokat a civileket, akik a humanitárius szervezeteknek és a nigériai hadseregnek segítenek.
A Boko Haram Nigériában 2002-es megalakulása óta csaknem 27 ezer embert ölt meg, a terrortámadások miatt pedig további 2,5 millióan kényszerültek otthonuk elhagyására. A szervezet célja egy „iszlám kalifátus” megteremtése.
