Az iráni állami média vasárnap bejelentése szerint gyakorlatilag agyhalott az a 16 éves, október elején kómába esett iráni lány, akit emberi jogi szervezetek szerint azért bántalmazott az erkölcsrendészet, mert nem viselte a kötelező fejkendőt.
A hivatalos bejelentés kórházi forrásokra támaszkodva azt közölte, az egészségügyi dolgozók mindent megtettek Armita Geravand állapota jobbrafordulásáért, ám az agykárosodást nem tudták elkerülni.
Emberi jogi szervezetek, köztük a Hengaw nevű, norvégiai székhelyű kurd jogvédő szervezet szerint Geravandot a teheráni metróban bántalmazta az erkölcsrendészet női kommandója, mert nem volt rajta az előírásos fejkendő.
Az iráni vezetés tagadja, hogy a lány sérülését az erkölcsrendészet tagjai okozták volna.
A hatóságok a történtek után néhány nappal őrizetbe vették a diáklány anyját, Sahín Ahmedit is.
