Az elmúlt nap során az országban 3689 koronavírus okozta halálesetet – ez rekordszám India esetében. Korábban a legtöbb halálos kimenetelű fertőzést április 29-én fedezték fel – 3645. Indiában összesen több mint 215 ezer ember halt meg koronavírus fertőzésben.
Indiában egy nap alatt 392 488 embernél diagnosztizáltak fertőzést, a betegek száma meghaladta a 19,5 milliót. Előző nap az országban „antirekord” született – először regisztráltak több mint 400 ezer beteget.
A koronavírus járvány katasztrofális helyzete és az orvosi rendszer összeomlása okán Narendra Modi, India miniszterelnöke május 1-jén az egészségügyi miniszterrel vitatta meg a kialakult válságot, számolt be a BBC. Az ország kórházaiban nincs elegendő ágy és oxigén. A halottasházak és a krematóriumok túlzsúfoltak.
