Rémálommá vált egy hajókirándulás Bali partjainál, amikor egy 125 férőhelyes turistahajót hatalmas hullám billentett meg röviddel az indulása után. A fedélzeten tartózkodó 89 ember közül többen pánikba estek, és az ablakokat betörve próbáltak menekülni a süllyedő járműről.
A hajó Nusa Lembongan szigetéről indult útnak, azonban azt nem tudta teljesíteni, egy hirtelen érkező hullám miatt, amitől a hajó gyorsan megtelt vízzel, és irányíthatatlanná vált – írja a The Independent.

A tragikus baleset Bali szigetén történt egy üdülőhelyen, miután leszakadt egy felvonó kábele.
A CNA jelentése szerint múlt pénteken egy Balin található üdülőhely 5 alkalmazottja vesztette életét, miután egy felvonó kábele elszakadt, ők pedig a mélybe zuhantak. A baleset az indonéz média szerint délután 1 óra körül történt az Ubudban található Ayuterra Resortban.
Úgy tudni, az üdülőhely takarító részlegének két férfi és három női tagja – 19 és 24 év közöttiek – egy 60 fokos lejtőn működő kültéri felvonóban tartózkodott, amikor annak acélkábele elszakadt. A felvonó az üdülőközpont alkalmazottait és vendégeit szállította fel és le a lejtőn.
A helyi jelentések szerint az üvegburkolatú burkolt felvonó mintegy 100 métert zuhant le a töltésről, és két ember a helyszínen életét vesztette, a másik három halálos áldozat pedig a kórházba szállítás után hunyt el.
Az ubudi rendőrség még vizsgálja az esetleges gondatlanságot és a karbantartás hiányát, noha a helyi jelentések szerint az előzetes vizsgálatok arra utalnak, hogy a kábel a lift túlterhelése miatt szakadt el.

Nem ritkák a földrengések Indonéziában, de ez most egy 7-es erősségű rengés volt, ami nem túl gyakori. Kedden, kora reggel érzékelték a földmozgást Bali és Lombok szigetektől északra, a tenger mélyén.
Erről az Európai-Mediterrán Szeizmológiai Központ (EMSC) számolt be. A Reuters azt írja, a lakosok kirohantak az épületekből, de tragédiáról egyelőre nem számoltak be. A rengés epicentruma az indonéziai Mataramtól 203 kilométerre északra, nagyon mélyen, 516 kilométerrel a földfelszín alatt alakult ki.
Az indonéz és az amerikai geológiai ügynökségek a rengés erősségét 7,1-esre becsülték, cunami veszélye nem fenyeget. Az indonéz geológiai ügynökség szerint két 6,1-es és 6,5-ös erősségű rengés követte az elsőt.

A badungi környezet- és közegészségügyi hatóság Kuta, Legian és Seminyak strandjait tisztította meg pénteken és szombaton – írja a The Guardian című brit napilap online kiadása. A 90 tonna szemét eltakarítása azonban csak rövid időre oldja meg a gondokat, ugyanis a népszerű partokra napi 30-60 tonna (!) hulladék érkezik.
Az indonéz kormány 2020 áprilisában hirdetett országos stratégiát a tengeri környezetre és a gazdaságra egyaránt fenyegetést jelentő műanyaghulladék problémájának megoldására. Az ausztrál nemzeti tudományos intézet (CSIRO) munkatársa, Denise Hardesty szerint a műanyagszemét évről évre egyre súlyosbodó problémát jelent Bali partjain. Hardesty, aki szakértőként segíti az indonéz kormány munkáját, hozzátette, hogy a műanyaghulladék valószínűleg nem messziről érkezik és az indonéz szigetvilág sok más területére is hasonló sors várhat.
Bali délnyugati partszakaszain az esős és szeles monszunszezonban halmozódik fel a szemét. Hardesty szerint a fokozódó hulladékmennyiség összhangban van a műanyagtermelés globális növekedésével.
A helyiek ugyanakkor egyéni és közösségi szinten is próbálják csökkenteni a műanyagtermékek használatát. A CSIRO egy olyan új módszer bevezetését tervezi Indonéziában, amely egyebek között mesterséges intelligenciát használva követné nyomon a szemét útját és azonosítaná a gócpontokat.
