Jacinta Allen, Victoria kormányzója azt mondta, a lángok már hat otthont pusztítottak el, a katasztrófavédelem pedig több mint 15 bozóttűzről tud a környéken. Allen elmondta, hogy a vészhelyzeti hatóságok vasárnap ismét összeülnek az ügyben, és hozzátette, hogy a jövő hét közepe felé vélhetően újabb nagy hőhullám érkezik a térségbe.
A héten már több mint kétezren menekültek el Victoria nyugati részéből az állam fővárosa, Melbourne felé. A lángokat mintegy 1000 tűzoltó több mint 50 légi járművel igyekszik oltani.
Bár az utóbbi két évben a hatóságok és a katasztrófavédelem többé-kevésbé sikeresen fékezték meg a tüzeket, a 2019–2020-as „fekete nyár” idején a bozóttüzek Törökország méretű területet pusztítottak el Ausztráliában és 33 ember, illetve hárommilliárd állat halálát okozták.
