A WJBK-TV-nek a detroiti tűzoltóság tűzvizsgálati vezetője, Dennis Richardson az incidens kapcsán elmondta, hogy a nők éppen megérkeztek munkahelyükre, amikor a férfi benzint öntött rájuk, majd egy öngyújtóval felgyújtotta őket.

A támadót hivatalosan még nem nevezték meg, de a rendőrség annyit elárult, hogy gyilkossági kísérlet miatt indítványozta a férfi elleni vádemelést. A hatóságok jelenleg is vizsgálják az eset körülményeit.
Az ügyészség szerdán bejelentette, hogy több vádponttal vádat emeltek a férfi ellen.

Szombaton rövid idő alatt több mint 17 centiméternyi eső hullott le a michigani Detroit és Wayne megye térségre, melynek következtében hatalmas áradások alakultak ki.
A The New York Times értesülései szerint délután három órakor a Detroit környékén található autópályák üzemeltetői rengeteg vészhívást kaptak, ugyanis több mint 350 autós jelezte, elakadtak a forgalomban, az óriási vízből képtelenek elmozdulni, ezért segítségre lenne szükségük.
A gépkocsik többsége azért állt meg, mert túlságosan mélyen hajtottak velük a vízben, melynek következtében bekerült a folyadék a kerekek mögé, ezután pedig rövidzárlatot okozott az elektromos egységekben, így az ablakok felhúzódtak, így a bent ragadtak nem tudtak kijutni, mivel a víz egyre magasabbra emelkedett.
Többen is attól tartottak, hogy meg fognak fulladni, ha nem tudnak időben kijutni az autójukból, végül szerencséjükre sikerült távozniuk, köszönhetően a kivezényelt tűzoltóknak és a katasztrófavédelem szakembereinek, akik több mint 50 sofőrt és utast mentettek ki a hömpölygő árból.
Szombaton Michigan kormányzója, Gretchen Whitmer vészhelyzetet hirdetett ki Wayne megyére. amely magában foglalja Detroit nagyvárosát is. A monszunszerű esőzések az év ezen szakaszában nem számítanak ritkaságnak az Egyesült Államokban, az viszont korántsem normális, hogy szinte órák alatt lehullik annyi csapadék, mint amennyinek nagyjából két hónap alatt kellene.
