Elszabadult katonalovak okoztak személyi sérüléseket és anyagi károkat szerdán London belvárosában.
Az incidens a brit főváros leglátogatottabb, turistákkal zsúfolt belső negyedében történt.
A szerda délutánig elhangzott hatósági beszámolók szerint a Household Cavalry – vagyis a brit hadsereg egyik elitalakulata, a királyi családhoz kötődő rendezvényeken is gyakorta szereplő udvari lovasság – öt lova szabadult el és vágtatott végig a londoni belvároson, levetve lovasaikat.
Az egység a Buckingham-palota – III. Károly király első számú londoni hivatala – közelében, a Belgravia városrészben végzett gyakorlatokat, amikor a lovak valószínűleg egy építkezés zajától megijedve megvadultak.
Matt Woodward alezredes, a Household Cavalry lovassági ezredének parancsnoka szerda esti nyilatkozatában elmondta: nagy magasságból építési anyagok zuhantak közvetlenül a gyakorlatozó alakulat mellé, és emiatt az egység lovai ijedt vágtatásba kezdtek.

A londoni tűzoltóság szerda esti beszámolója szerint az elszabadult lovakat drónok segítségével kutatták fel. Az egyiket csaknem tíz kilométerre az incidens helyszínétől, London keleti részében találták meg.
A brit hadsereg ismertetése szerint a Household Cavalry különösen nagytermetű, erős lovakból válogatja állományát, mivel az alakulat lovai rendszerint nehéz menetfelszerelésű katonákkal a hátukon vesznek részt hosszú ideig tartó ceremóniákon.
