Az Egyesült Államok elnöke, Joe Biden jóváhagyta taposóaknák szállítását Ukrajnának ‒ jelentette be egy névtelenséget kérő amerikai kormánytisztviselő a Reuters hírügynökségnek. Ez a lépés jelentősen befolyásolhatja az orosz-ukrán konfliktus menetét, különösen Kelet-Ukrajna térségében.
A döntés hátterében az a stratégiai megfontolás áll, hogy a taposóaknák telepítése lassíthatja az orosz szárazföldi csapatok előre nyomulását Ukrajna keleti részén. A kormánytisztviselő hangsúlyozta, hogy az Egyesült Államok elvárása szerint Ukrajna kizárólag saját területén fogja használni ezeket az eszközöket ‒ írta meg a Reutersre hivatkozva a Newsweek Japan.
Az amerikai taposóaknák jelentősen különböznek orosz megfelelőiktől. A tisztviselő elmondása szerint ezek az eszközök nem állandó jellegűek, hanem egy előre meghatározott időtartam után automatikusan hatástalanná válnak. Működésükhöz elem szükséges, amely lemerülése után az akna nem képes felrobbanni. Ez a technológia csökkenti a hosszú távú veszélyeket és megkönnyíti a konfliktus utáni aknamentesítést.
