Több észak-karolinai síelő megsérült, miután lezuhantak egy ülőliftről, amit egy sérült tűzcsapból feltörő víz öntött el.
A baleset péntek este történt, amikor egy síelő véletlenül a hóágyúzási műveletekhez szükséges csőnek ütközött. A nagy nyomás alatt álló víz több tucat méter magasan a levegőbe lövelt, ezzel útját állva az ezalatt a levegőben párhuzamosan közlekedő ülőliftnek – olvasható a New York Post oldalán.
Egy főiskolás diák, aki pont akkor ment át barátjával a felvonóval a gejzír felett könnyebb sérüléseket szenvedett.
„Elég nagy fájdalmaim vannak, főleg a bal oldalam aggasztó, de az egész testem zúzódások borítják”– mondta a 19 éves Emma Lopinto, hozzátéve, hogy barátja valószínűleg gerincsérülést szenvedett.
A fiatalok mögött nem sokkal két idősebb nő úgy döntött, hogy a több mint 7,5 méter magasságból a szűz hóba veti magát, hogy elkerüljék a vízcsóvával való találkozást.
„Komoly fájdalmaim vannak, annak ellenére, hogy fájdalomcsillapítókat szedek. Nem tudok egyedül felöltözni, zuhanyozni, nem tudok felemelni semmit, és az ujjaim sem működnek rendesen” – mondta az egyik idős nő, akinek a zuhanás során eltört a karja.
Az üdülőhely dolgozói elmondták, hogy nem szóltak a síelőknek, hogy ugorjanak, de a sérült nő szerint nem tudták azonnal elzárni a vizet, ezért muszáj volt.
A sérülteket a baleset után egy közeli kórházba szállították. Állapotuk stabil.

Hat órával később jelentette be a helyi rendőrség a Twitteren, hogy „események nélkül” elfogták az ügy gyanúsítottját, de részleteket nem közöltek róla.
Azt mondták, hogy a diákok már nincsenek veszélyben.
Ezen a héten ez már a második iskolai lövöldözés volt az államban: hétfőn egy 15 éves diák sérült meg egy wilmingtoni lövöldözésben.
