Franciaországban szinte mindennaposak, hogy egy-egy éjszaka fiatalok feldúlnak egy külvárost, gyújtogatnak, kocsikat borítanak fel, kirakatokat törnek be. De ami La Gabelle-ben történt vasárnapra virradóan, az ott is szokatlan.
A kijárási tilalom miatt egy bandát igazoltatni akartak rendőrök este 11 óra körül, mert az utcán voltak és kiabáltak. A fiatalok nem adták oda a papírjukat, ellenben megtámadták a rendőröket, pillanatok alatt 70-80-an lettek a rendőrök körül, felborították a rendőrkocsit, a rendőrök pedig elmenekültek. Ezután a fiatalok az egész városban pusztítani kezdtek, hajnali háromig.
Davido Reverdy, a francia rendőrség úgynevezett vidéki ügyekkel foglalkozó egységének a szakszervezeti titkára arról beszélt a BFM TV-nek, hogy ez nem La Gabelle, ez maga Franciaország, itt nem zavargásokról kell beszélni, hanem városi gerillákról, és hogy 70-80 fiatalember gyakorlatilag felgyújtott és kifosztott egy francia kisvárost. A Le Figaro arról írt, hogy a rendőrtiszt hordának nevezte a tomboló fiatalokat.
Ugyanis sorra törték fel az üzleteket, gyújtogattak, fosztogattak. Összesen 17 boltot támadtak meg. Rengeteg autót gyújtottak fel.
Davido Reverdy arról is beszélt, hogy szerinte a kommandósoknak is segíteni kellett volna a csendőröknek és a rendőröknek. Három rendőr egyébként megsérült.
La Gabelle bevándorlók lakta negyedéből indult a tombolás, ahogy az elmúlt napokban hasonló gyújtogatások, fosztogatások voltak Toulonban, azaz egy nagyobb francia városban is.
Egyetlenegy fosztogatót, gyújtogatót sem tudtak letartóztatni.
