Minden bizonnyal olyan, COVID-ban elhunyt emberek maradványairól van szó, akiknek családja nem tudta vállalni a hagyományos, hamvasztásos temetkezés költségeit – írja a brit Metro.
Hindu szertartás szerint a halottakat elhamvasztják, hamvaikat pedig szétszórják valamely vallási helyszínen. A Gangesz a hinduizmus legszentebb folyója, ezért távoli falvak lakói egyszerűen csak beletették elhunyt szeretteiket. A folyóból eltávolított testeken mind láthatóak a hindu temetési rituálék nyomai.
Félő, hogy ez a gyakorlat hozzájárul a koronavírus további terjedéséhez, és egyéb egészségügyi kockázatokat jelent.
A két tartományban összesen 300 millió ember él. Uttar Pradesh kormányának szóvivője a The Asian Age-nek túlzónak nevezte a médiában megjelent számokat, de azt elismerte, hogy a folyó partjait rendőrök ellenőrzik. Cáfolta azt is, hogy az emberek kétségbeesésükben cselekednének így, szerinte a falusiak bizonyos időszakokban egyébként sem hamvasztják az elhunytakat.

India északi részén több tucatnyi holttestet sodort partra a Gangesz, miközben az ország még mindig küzd a koronavírus-járvány második hullámával, írja a BBC cikke alapján a 24.hu.
Néhány nap alatt 50 holttestet találtak Gahmar városánál a folyóban, és csak hétfőn további 40-et onnan 55 kilométerre.
Az nem tisztázott, hogy miként kerültek a vízbe a holttestek, de valószínűleg a járvány áldozatai mindannyian. Személyazonosságuk egyelőre szintén nem ismert.
A helyiek állítólag az elmúlt napokban bűzre panaszkodtak a hatóságoknál, de csak azt követően történt bármi is, hogy hétfőn megtalálták az első holttesteket, amik már erősen bomlásnak indultak.
A rendőrség nyomozást indított.
Indiában még mindig pusztít a koronavírus, a krematóriumok szinte mindenhol megteltek. A járvány kezdete óta eddig 22 millió esetet azonosítottak és 249 992-en haltak meg a betegségben. Szakértők szerint viszont a valós számok még ennél is magasabbak lehetnek.
